I laugh at some weird people here thinking it as a savior and protector of the world.

This TPP has many more insanely huge dangerous implications thou not just copyright. There are many nasty things. Not for nothing this tpp was and remian still a huge secret to protect and that the messes need to NOT be aware of, until its too late.

This was the major reason I'm against the TTP outright, without having to delve into the deeper and obviously more important economic and trade issues. I just don't want more prosecution and legal persecution to come down on artists doing parodies of licensed works.

I had a look at the Trans-Pacific Partnership...Yes, this treaty is loaded with some really bad proposals, including the potential to curtail fair use. Knowing how Comiket survives on doujinshi works, I don't see them lasting much further under the TPP.

Well, at least manga has to enter public domain sometime. I hope that the Japanese aren't as active as Disney in renewing their IP.

When it comes to intellectual property, this is how I would rule that it works:

-Perpetual copyright of any kind isn't allowed.
-Renewal is limited to 2 times and each has a 60-month lifespan.
-When a copyrighted work and any trademarks it has becomes public domain, they are to stay that and there are no circumstances where they can be re-copyrighted or re-trademarked.

If SOPA was penned by lesser demons, then the TPP was authored by Satan himself. It is huge and has far reaching consequences into almost every major industry. Here's the IP chapter of the TPP:

Even cancer patients will be affected by this:

Not even scratching the surface of the evils that will be borne from this.

There's a reason I call TPP, the Tyrant Pacific Partnership, it pretty much destroys everything and benefits only corporate tyrants (it doesn't benefit the government either and they can be sued). The paper is a treaty for corporate rule, the worst nightmare in the history of humanity. Passing this treaty is like giving ISIS all the nuclear weapons in the world, you're just asking for death, doom, and destruction.

It's the insistence on secrecy that will kill this in the US, we've had one really bad experience with a massively complex law like that recently. There are a lot of people that haven't forgotten, so getting the needed authorizations for the TPP from the US Congress is not a sure thing.

Serious treaties such as the TPP need to be crafted in a public forum that allows time to develop understanding of all the consequences. Even if that means that some items that special interests and / or national leaders think are important get discarded.

Japan's government protected their citizens right to produce & read cartoon child porn. I'm sure they'll protect their right to produce & read porn fanfic of their favourite cartoons & comics, too.

They will to a point, however I don't trust them in protecting doujinshi with copyrighted characters, the original stuff will be safe but what most people choose for doujinshi will not be safe as it consists of copyrighted characters.

But IT IS the US government that is pushing for this evil, the US president is pushing it hard, the funny thing this does not benefit at all any of the other countries, its all so corporations (US ones) dominate and do as they please.

You mean, porn? I get that TPP is going to affect more important things than otaku "artists", but I will not be upset if it gets rid of doujinshi porn.

Not even just porn, that also includes anyone doing completely non-provocative parody works, which is a greater number than those doing porn but never seems like that because they're not as sought after outside of Japan (not as readily scanned, uploaded, and scanlated). Doujinshi is not synonymous with porn, it just appears that way to us. So it could get rid of the smut AND things that were completely harmless and normal. Sure I'm more concerned with that smut, but you should be more concerned with everything in totality. Who knows where it ends, inability to even make fanart due to copyright violations?

Whoa there now. I despise doujinshi "porn" myself, but if people start allowing the government to outlaw eroge doujinshi simply for the reason that they dislike it, it won't be too long before they criminalize all sorts of doujinshi within their wake, including doujinshi that you may favor. This should concern you, even if eroge doujinshi isn't your cup of tea.

I am not concerned with what happens with doujinshi (porn or non-porn) because I am not an avid consumer of it.
