Sega still has other business elsewhere, like pachinkos. Sega sells more PC than console games, but pachinko machines eclipse both - Sega's doing much better in the PC and digital market as console game sales crash, but pachinko is still the biggest earner. They're just lessening their focus on video gaming. |

First Konami, and now SEGA, huh? I hope CAPCOM's not next. But with their Street Fighter and Mega Man programmers jumping ship, I'm not sure what they got left.

Hardly surprising, most of their games in recent years have not sold to well; Binary Domain, Super Monkey Ball, Vanquish. The only things not are doing Yakuza and Total War. Best to stick to Arcade games and Pachinko.

Probably because of their restructuring. I'm keeping any doomsaying feelings in check instead of jumping to them going under any time soon.

Can't say I'm surprised by this, considering how many of their games' sales weren't faring all that well these past months. I think this is for the best, anyway, since Sega needs time to regroup for a bit.

They also haven't had their own game console in over a decade (not counting the updates/support they had for the Dreamcast years back).

I love how people keep going on about how major Japanese game developers are "gonna go bankrupt" without knowing anything at all about 1) how the industry works on a business level over there or 2) how most "game developers" are actually highly diversified corporations within Japan and only exist simply as a "game developer" outside of Japan. Sega has lots of pachinko and the like, Konami has ALL SORTS of bizarre machinery from vending machines to medical equipment, Square Enix has an entire printed-material publishing house with several highly successful manga anthologies... The list goes on. Just because a company is taking some of their eggs out of the gaming world doesn't mean they're going under.
Also I love how "offering early retirement packages" is now the new phrase for "laid off". |

Booth space at E3 tends to be very expensive, and then whoever staffs it obviously isn't working at their normal job, so I can see where E3 isn't a priority right now. Besides, with constant game coverage on numerous websites, it isn't like E3 is as crucial as it used to be. Lots of companies already make announcements a week or two ahead of the show in order to avoid being buried under all the other announcements, so if Sega had anything important to say, there are other ways to do it that are a lot cheaper.

It's all because they keep forcing Creative Assembly (Makers of Total War Franchise) to do stupid things: Locking content from Total War games THAT WAS ALREADY IN THE CODE AND COMPLETE behind micro transactions... also turning it into a casual game studio (Total War:Arena)
Let CA release games with all it's content, and then maybe more people would buy it, we've caught on, and we're not buying them anymore! |

Sega is dead when it comes to gaming, I can't see them having a TGS booth either and even if it does it will be full of stuff almost no one wants.
