Maybe it's because I haven't read the manga so I don't know any grand things he may have done after where the anime ended, but as of now I seriously don't get what's so great about Levi. He's not so different from many other stoic characters I've seen before.

Ha I don't get Frieza either.
My vote would have gone to The Phantom Miria from Claymore as she's easy to get along with, very accepting, a head stron leader who is quick to adapt to any situation given to her and rarely becomes flustered, deligates but is always the first to pitch in when things get tough.

There are so many canonically horrible bosses on these lists.

Nice to see Magician Yang here
I kinda think that Gintoki would be pretty crappy boss. He'd be a good friend, but I most certainly wouldn't want him as my superior.

Levi cares about his comrades even if he doesn't always show it. He's got your back and if something happens to you, he will mourn you (not to mention kill your murderer).

What is with Japan's odd obsession with Friza?
Best Friend? Best boss?
I would like to work for Luffy, i think he'd make work pretty fun.

I really like Levi's characterization: the combination of the subtle sadism when doing his job and an obsession with cleanliness are very effective at conveying his role as a disciplined but deadly savant.

Levi's defining moment for me was when he was introduced. He looks disgusted when he gets blood on his hand so I thought he'd be a stuck up douchebag, then he goes to his dying comrade and he doesn't hesitate to grab the guy's bloody hand and comfort him in his last moments.

@Vaisaga
Plenty of other characters are like that.
What makes him different enough to get the attention and praise he's gotten?

SnK manga spoiler I guess:
Don't they know that pretty much anybody that worked under Levi died and that he is actually not so good squad captain?

If you look at the voting it is 430 women, 112 male. I think that speaks for itself, most are just voting him because they want to ogle all day.
As for why so many men want Frieza...ummm?
I find the voting interesting though. Particularly how prevalent male characters are as 'boss', even among the male votes. Speaks a bit of gender roles. Those females that are voted in are mostly fairly strict no-nonsense types. Like seriously? If it was me I would vote in a beautiful lady with a forgiving personality so I could just ogle all day! The females had the right idea, vote in the eye-candy.
