Yeah... dude has some insightful comments and interesting anecdotes, but he really needs to kick it up a bit and get a bigger Starbucks cup of coffee...

Anyways, there's going to be a dub? I wonder if that's on the DVD as well (most likely it is). Great news, though. I had a hard time reading the subs at AX.

Thank goodness the Blu-ray edition is only $39 MSRP once again proving that the $40 30 minute Freedom and $80 Honneamise tag is an example of BVUSA's insanity and not a byproduct of high definition. I've noticed that the high definition versions of movies tend to only be about 20-30% more expensive than their standard definition counterparts. I really hope to see Metropolis and Cowboy Bebop on Blu-Ray from Sony by 2008.

Exactly BV USA is just over charging everyone with their releases, I am glad to hear that Sony is putting out two editions of this movie seeing as how I am not going to own a PS3 I mean blue ray player until Christmas when the 80GB model gets a price drop.

I'm just happy that it's coming out so soon, especially on Blu-Ray. I didn't think I'd get to see the film at least until next year.

I loved the manga, and I can't wait to see the film. The trailers I've seen looked great.

I completely understand a higher price for Honneamise. But I agree that the cost is still excessive.

Oh my God, I'm all over this. Perfect timing, too, since I just got my PS3. Those amazing visuals deserve nothing less than high-def treatment, regardless of what you think of the story (I loved it, personally). I can't think of a more beautiful and visually dense film since... well, ever.

Well Sony plans to announce the first two dvds and then cancel it indefinitely.

Well you better use the PS3 for something seeing as how there aren't games, I can't wait to watch this movie on Blue Ray when the PS3 drops in price again in December. I am excited to see this but also I am a bit weary considering how the story appears to be a bit of a mess. I guess I can always pick up the reprint of Black & White and to supplement my viewing.

I think you should. And try to read the manga first, if possible. I saw the movie in the theater with the manga fresh on my brain (I'd just re-read it a few days ahead of time to pump myself up) and I think it really increased my enjoyment. I was having "OMG I remember this part" and "Oh, I loved this part in the manga!" moments the whole time and it made the viewing experience really special. The movie pacing is admittedly very fast and a little messy, but if you know the story ahead of time you shouldn't have any problems. Plus you'll see what a faithful adaptation it is.

Damn, if it really is that bad I'm going to be spending all month telling people how awesome the manga is. Being as big a fan of the original as I am I'll probably end up buying it, but the mediocre reviews by fellow Matsumoto fans have really killed my enthusiasm.

And is Honneamise really going to be $80? Will it at least be a fancy package like Patlabor? I was planning to buy it if it was $40 just for the regular DVD, but the more I think about it the more attractive the VHS I already own becomes.

Kagemusha: I haven't read the manga, but Arias should have pulled a Robert Rodriguez and gotten Matsumoto a job as co-director if he wanted it done right.

As for Honneamise's price, at least you can get a discount.

Well, it's rather nice to see that Tekkon Kinkreet is getting an English dub, so those that refuse to support a release that isn't bilingual can't speak out against this. We might also see an English dub for Paprika, considering how well it's doing.

That said, I'm probably only going to end up renting the film adaption. I love the manga, and am going to be double-dipping on Viz's re-release. I was initially planning to buy the anime, which would've broke my rule of not owning two versions of the same story when it comes to anime and manga (Mushishi is the lone exception to this rule, and Nodame Cantabile would join it if the anime adaption is licensed). But reviews have made me leery, so Arias' adaption has turned into a rental. Shame, really...

There really hasn't been much clarification if BV USA's Honneamise release is going to be barebones with the "justification" being the inclusion of the HD discs, or else if they're actually putting for a lot of effort into the presentation (can't remember anything stated about extras). I'd love to see it done ala the Patlabor films (best pair of releases in R1 EVER), as Honneamise more than deserves it, but...

For what it's worth, DVD Pacific will have an even cheaper price listing when it finally gets put up, probably at fifty dollars, which would be even cheaper than what Gatsu linked to with Amazon. I was rather put off when the specs were announced concerning the release (understatement of the week), but given that Honneamise is my favorite anime film... I'll probably break and end up buying it (the Blu Ray bundle, I suppose).

This problem would've been avoided if BV USA didn't have ridiculously high levels of paranoia concerning reverse importation... or if Manga Entertainment's encoding of the DVD wasn't so damn shitty...

Also, see your PM box for an unrelated matter, Huffy.

Manga's generally been reliable on the video side of dvd releases, which makes me think that the shoddy transfer might have been a reverse-importation issue.
