I started reading the colorized Epic version before the movie came out (late 1980's). I was (and am) deeply impressed by how vivid and dynamic the artwork is, colored or not. To me, the biggest difference is that the movie doesn't seem half as visceral and exciting as the manga. Perhaps it's different for those who saw the movie first,

Meh, just more useless characters? Good thing I never picked up the manga then, since the movie already seems 10 times better.

Is it too late for Katsuhiro Otomo to do an Akira Part 2? After watching this video, I would totally want to see the second half animated.

As someone who loves the movie, I have to say that the manga is still way better. I encourage everyone to read it. My dream is that someday, when someone wants to remake the film, they will make a multi film franchise that follows the story from the manga. Like a trilogy, with every film covering 2 volumes of the manga.

probably wouldn't happen either way, the movie is great don't get me wrong but it didn't exactly follow the manga in a lot of aspects, but I would love to see this series get redone in an OVA kind of deal since that would work better than a 2 hour movie.

I also think the manga is more interesting. The movie is an amazing visual fest, but to me it lacks story and character depth. When I ran into the manga I lamented that more of it was not animated. I would like it if the anime was rebooted and turned into a television series. There is plenty of material for at least 40 episodes, but a capable staff could fit the manga content in 26 episodes.

I liked the movie, but that was still a nice video to watch.

Only in the way that the movie and manga are really old so many people have already done it themselves. Its a good vid just a "late bloomer"

Nice way to get a refresher on one of my favorite series.
