16 episodes... maybe the schedule of the rest of the cour will be taken up by a short 6-8 episodes shows, re-runs or that Nagato Yuki-chan no Shōshitsu will have a lot of recap episodes or not air almost-every-other-episode or so.

No. Mist probably they'll do the same they as with Bakemonogatari, Kokoro Connect, Saki Achiga and OreImo and just screen the additional eps later as TV-specials.

episodes 3-16 will be repeats of one and two with slight changes due to lack of material or interest by the producers.

Well, seeing Minori Chihara in the orchestral concert of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya blu-ray box set helped convince me to visit Japan 
Looking forward to this series also. |

16 episodes, I wonder if they'll go with the BD/DVD only episodes, like Kokoro Connect.
While it is a strange episode total, could easily cover the first 5 volumes of the manga. Volumes 4 and part of 5 are where the real 'meat' is, so far, for this series. |

I haven't read Yen Press's releases, but I'm still excited for this. Nagato's always been an interesting character. I hope we get to see some Haruhi action too

This nagato is very different from the character in the other Haruhi stories. Personally, I do not really like this version of Nagato and I dropped the manga after the fourth volume. But, since I did not finish the manga I cannot give a fully informed opinion. |

I have seen anime that have 14 episodes, and I have seen one anime that has 15 episodes. Heck, if you add up all of the episodes of Baccano, that's 16 episodes, right there! However, if you count the 16 episodes of the series and the 1 OVA together, you get 17 episodes total. I have never encountered any anime with that total episode count before, and to think that that anime would be a spin-off of my favorite anime.... It's just amazing
