This looks superb. I just wish the 1st set wasn't 120 dollars after shipping. I would love so much to have that storyboard.

I want to watch this in English, for obvious reasons. But the original dub has Shuichi Ikeda and Mayumi Tanaka.

Perhaps they should join Aniplex USA for these outrageous prices.

Bandai Visual was selling their discs at high price in the US even before Aniplex entered the US market. So either you came late to the anime fandom or totally forgotten about the history.

I really wish they'd stop revisiting the Universal Century timeline.

Is this something that can be watched without knowing any Gundam history?

Probably not, it's going to spoil a lot of backstory that you learn throughout the original series.

Damn, I was hoping I could use it to jump into the franchise. The big Gundam universe has kept me out of it so far. Should one start at the beginning in chronological release order?

Can't you remember Anime Legends? full box sets, when other companies were still selling Anime in multiple volumes. I paid £25 for the entire series of Outlaw Star, with Aniplex I pay more than that just for 1 part.

That's usually the best way.

You mean their highest selling and most popular Gundam timeline? Yeah, I'm sure they're going to do that.
(Though I wouldn't mind another G Gundam... think what Imagawa could do now.)
I'd love, love love love to get this animated version of The Origin, but unfortunately, Bandai had to get super greedy, like with Unicorn. And I don't have enough money to throw around on super expensive releases. Even if I did, I probably still wouldn't, at this point.
Maybe the stream rental (ha!) will be much more affordable.

What? Your talking as if all we ever get is UC when in the past 15 years what have we got? Not much until Unicorn & now The Origin, both based off highly acclaimed material and that sell very well. The last UC TV series was in 1993! Its about time they stop with the recent disappointing AU Gundam shows that don't do so well and revisit the UC timeline. We suffered enough
Well there's Reconguista but its not part of the UC timeline as it apparently takes place long after, It might as well be AU to me...

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in the clip. The way they used the 3DCG, the models all lacked weight. (mass)
The battleships doing maneuvers and then turning around in retreat did so like some kid playing with a little toy in the bathtub. And even Char zipping around in the Zaku had spastic movements that didn't properly telegraph that the unit had any mass whatsoever, nor that it was in space dealing with any inertial forces at all. It was almost like a bobblehead.

You can watch the 3 compilation movies for Mobile Suit Gundam instead of the entire series. Then I would watch 0080 - War in the Pocket, as it's widely regarded as among the best of the UC series. Then Zeta. Double Zeta is pretty meh and stupid... I would honestly skip it.
Victory Gundam is one thats rarely visited by Gundam fans it seems, but I couldn't tell you how good it is overall. I just know that it is the depths of "Sad Tomino" so there is a really high body-count of characters dying.
F91 movie was originally supposed to be a full TV series, so while it is fairly good, it's rushed and could have been so much more.
The recent Gundam Unicorn then is excellent.
Turn-A Gundam is not technically UC, but could be considered to be the capper series for all of Gundam, and excellent in its own right. That said, it is a very different feel compared to its age -- it was made in 2000, but feels more like it was made in 1985. The current Gundam Reconguista borrows heavily from Turn-A mecha designs and thematic feel IMHO.

Yes. Even if you do know your 0079 by heart, Origin is still something different. These OVAs are the backstory to 0079. So it's new and worth watching.
