Log Horizon I believe is the first Sentai title that Jad Saxton worked on. This is quite a reverse since it's normally a ADV/Sentai VA that might start doing Funi titles.

A-Channel was a joy for me to watch while it was streaming. As you said, the show doesn't have anything other than "cute girls doing cute things": most shows that fall into the same "genre", if you can call it that way, at the very least have a single defining quality, such as Kiniro Mosaic having the whole cultural exchange thing, or Non Non Biyori being on the countryside... but this one had nothing. Yet it still charmed me, for some reason, so I'll probably get the release eventually (if I have the money).

I get a real Riverworld vibe from Log Horizon.
Even if it does not come down as something as weighty as that it really is clever with its ideas. And I am totally enthralled week to week.
Totally dismissed the show without watching to start, thank god for enough viewing cuts and review positives to add it on around episode 16.

One Piece's Water 7 arc is a good arc that provides development for mainly Usopp's and Robin's character. How time flies...

Ah, A-Channel, I remember when my friend bought it at AX 3 years ago. It was ok, but nothing special, even for a slice of life. Although those random songs in the middle of each episode kind of bothered me.

I really enjoyed Log Horizon 2's dub with Meg McDonald finally doing more than just the "high pitched" character. All the good things about Log Horizon 1 carried into the second half.
The harem aspect of Shiroe, well, let's break it down: There's the middle school girl who spent most of her life taking care of her... plot point, right? The lonely young, inexperienced girl who fell in love with the guy who saved her and them mentored her {It's fine for Druid girl but if the guy in question isn't a cool cat man, it's wrong?}. Then there's the deep immersion "LARP/RPG" woman who spent most of her life as someone else but who now suddenly finds herself in a opposite sex master/servant relationship and she knows how they usually play out and now she's mixed up over so many things {Yeah, there's another character triangle... And I'll just leave it at that}. And then there's Henrietta, older than Shiroe but in many ways his equal who's so used to being over shadowed by her real life friend Marielle that she forgets she has a life and an appeal of her own.
Yeah, that harem? They're not throwing themselves at Shiroe because he's just the main character but because something in him resonates in their loneliness. Ok, that's probably more emotional complex than this series is ready for but they're going to have to deal with it eventually {I'm still waiting for the reason why a bunch of maxed out/burned out players came back to a game ten years old. There's got to be more than just they wanted to see what was changed. Something personal, maybe...}.
It's funny to call him a "Marty Sue/Garry Sue" when the series actually uses him as a Villain Sue as part of their political machinations. And as a long time player of such enchanter classes in online RPGs, they really are like that. Useless in a fight but godly in a group.
Anyways I like it, and it's most certainly worth the purchase. Rundelhaus's character arc is worth it by itself.

Well, even though it's not taken to the most extreme, he kind of is one. He tends to be the one who is running around solving everyone's problems when it looks like the shit is about to hit the fan, and through that, he gains people's admiration over it. The fact that they're playing it up as him being the "villain in glasses" comes more across as a means to downplay his perfection, or distract from it.
I don't necessarily think they're trying to build him a harem, though. At the moment, Shiroe has two girls aiming for him for at least vaguely believable reasons, so I don't really mind the love triangle by itself. That cake episode was still insufferable, though, because of the comedy they chose to build it around. It was actually kind of funny to see the Valentines episode in season 2 lampshade the behavior found in that cake episode.

Shiroe's strength is his ability to plan and delegate. It's not that he himself is strong, but rather that he uses the strengths of others when he knows that they would do a better job. In short, he's an actual leader, not some one-man army who can accomplish anything on his own.

A-channel like most slice-of-life moe, is best watched an episode or two at a time, in between other shows.
Regarding the pics, I'm guessing Kyle must've ran out of boards to use for the mesh/wireframe shelves, hence the basket?

I'm glad you brought up the feeling of Shiroe being a 'Gary Stu' Bamboo as I've seen many reviews and features on the series and they all seem to ignore it for whatever reason.
Shiroe is very much a 'Gary Stu', just a different variant on what we usually see in anime like Kirito and Blank. He reminds me of Naruto in that sense as while he may not have raw power going for him he has unhuman abilities elsewhere, what he did in this set made him look like Jesus. You see less of it in the second season though (so far anyway).
That isn't a criticism for me though, I like characters who are like that because it's entertaining to see how they will achieve what you know they already will.
I adore harems so don't mind that aspect (though Akatsuki became extremely irritating).

I'm pleased to see some more crossover between the studios actors beyond those that were already making the trip between Dallas and Houston in the ADV days. Mostly, I'm happy to see it since Sentai is rather dependent on a pretty small group of actors for most titles. Having folks from Funimation come in opens things up a bit without Sentai having to worry about blowing through the dub budget breaking in new actors. I'd like to see more new people to really add more variety, but this is a good compromise.

More like the devil, really. What with the contract and the crossroads and all...

Let's not forget the whole coup he did to create the entire round table to begin with. though the thing that trouble me is not the probable harem aspect, which i highly doubt ,it's how the animation of shiroe's silhouettes are way too familiar with professor stein. i mean come on. his methods might classify him as a villain, but he's no head case like stein.
Quote: | The episodes also introduce a love triangle, which feels a little tiresome. While it's only natural that people living in an environment long-term gravitate towards romantic pairings, it feels foolish to have that harem centered around Shiroe. It cheapens the story and swings it towards a much more generic norm. |
however the chances of that are very slim. for one thing minori is a middle school kid so its natural to have a crush.definitely not a love thing happening. sara is only interested in nyatta, and umiko is only interested in dressing akasuki in cute uniforms.
besides. its pretty obvious from the flashbacks that the only woman he ever thinks about is the former tea party leader.

Nice to see you including where shows are available streaming.
I still call Log Horizon "totally not Sword Art Online," but it seems worth checking out. I've heard mostly good things about it, although I don't think it will ever be on the top of my to-watch list.
Also I still don't understand why the "cute girls doing whatever" is a genre. If I wanted to watch a pointless conversation between girls I would sit at a Starbucks for two hours. Does it sound creepy to stare at girls in a Starbucks for 2 hours? The answer is yes. And because of that I ask why would I buy a show to simulate that. I mean I like Lucky Star as much as the next guy, but it has interesting musings on the situations and has a quick comedic pace (it's kinda like Seinfeld or Family Guy; it may not have a story arc but there are jokes there, even if it's not your taste). The characters don't just sit around talking about drinking tea. K-On! was like watching paint dry for me; I can barely remember two things about it despite watching both seasons.
Also my shelves are now pretty much completely full and I have to expand, so I will probably be sending in my shelves within the next few days.

It's very different from SAO (although both feel like they were made by people who only have a passing understanding of mmo, so if you're really into them it's probably not gonna work). But it focus more on rebuilding a society in the mmo world (similar to infinite ryvius). The main draw is the main character which, like other people mentioned, is a Gary Stu but very different from Kirito. Where Kirito had super power that no one else had and was a super loner, Shiroe… well Shiroe actually also sorta has super power that no one else has (because he retain tons of stuff from his old fully leveled account so there's sorta a reason for it) but he's not a loner, rather he's a super charismatic leader, different power trip. Most of what happens is him hatching scheme to get his end, the scheme are interesting in concept, but you can't think too much about them because they mostly rely on his opponent not realizing very obvious things. It's a good anime to watch without thinking too much about it, I enjoyed it when I was playing game at the same time.
