Hm, that's interesting.
Although I noticed this PC doesn't have CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives to playback music from your CD/DVD. ![]() |

So what makes them for "light novelists"? That is just a normal computer. Are they putting any special software on or something?
And seriously if you are going that low spec, just get an Intel NUC; similar grunt, smaller footprint, power usage and cost. Only real issue with a NUC is that it isn't really designed for dual monitor. But then dual monitor is wasting power anyway, I much prefer using a good ultrawide display now.
The general impression is that most people don't use drives anymore. Which I find is generally true. Software rarely comes on discs now, and most other things can be done via USB. Music/Movie is the only real common use for drives left, and then a lot of people only use it as long as it takes to rip. The problem with drives is that they use a lot of physical space comparatively. Particularly when you are going NUC size, a drive would add significantly to the size of the unit. Increasingly it by at least another 50%. A lot of PCs therefore are coming driveless, particularly these small form-factor ones. The idea is that if you need one, you will get a USB drive. Given they are so cheap these days, isn't really a problem, and you can just throw it in a draw when your done, until next you need it. .. I feel sorry for anyone buying these terrible pre-built PC's.
You can build a more unique and beautiful looking one, compact and small enough, low to no noise with stronger specs for the same price as those crappy ones. And it comes with a CD/DVD. |

Yeah I was going to bring that up. But I didn't know how to come up with a statement about that, but thanks for making one for me. ![]() |

People are very risk averse, particularly when it comes to computers. They don't understand how to build a PC, and are generally mislead by horror stories of builds gone wrong. Generally I find putting computers together to be fairly idiot proof as long as you show reasonable care, apart from the CPU, and there are ways around that. The big factor is generally the actual software setup. People generally have a hard time getting that done, and cannot troubleshoot when things go wrong. Windows is terrible when installing a mature OS, simply because of the patching. Linux is more awful. And Apple you cannot build yourself so. Pre-built gives peace of mind as you have easy access to a refund and someone to bitch at if it doesn't work as intended. |

What a stupid [expletive] computer. I don't see why anyone couldn't just by a cheap laptop and use it for mostly LN's . That would be a smarter thing to do than buy this piece of shit that doesn't even have a CD/Blue-Ray player.
That's what I did. For art projects I use my old laptop that is still in good condition and for games and other shit I have a desktop PC. |

Well what if I wanted to watch blu-ray film on my let say a big monitor that can display 8K images/videos, does that mean I have to buy a seperate USB Blu-ray drive? ![]() Oh and I saw this from IGN, a console that cost $2500. ![]() EDIT: cut down on quoting to prevent any excessive quoting violation. Considering I prefer looking through just one screen, I don't see how multi-monitor display would be of any use. Plus, as mentioned above, there are PCs out there that are much more energy-efficient.

It helps when you're programming or other kinds of production work, though. And people have to remember PC gamer elitism doesn't exist in Japan, so saying you can build your own and get better specs is not a big concern. This is aimed at people who are skilled in writing and drawing, not necessarily computer buffs. |

They used to call things like this "word processors", although that only refers to kinds of software these days.
