Well, they got one thing right: junior idols are much more creepy and damaging then anything manga or anime could come up with.

All I can hope for here is that it attempts to be fair in its portrayals of the subject matter, but the phrasing of the questions makes me skeptical. Also, I don't know that it is so much Japan taking some great stand against the knee-jerk reactions elsewhere so much as it is having a healthy understanding of the difference between reality and fiction. Even if somebody finds the actual content objectionable, I don't see how they can overlook the fact that none of it is real. I have my own personal limits when it comes to anime, but I also know that they are strictly my own limits and it isn't worth getting worked up over drawings that others might like.

Japan already wants to hide otaku culture from view in 2020, we don't need the West encouraging it any further. Junior idols and all that are fine to attack, but leave the 2D stuff alone FFS.

I find that type of stuff gross, especially when it comes to lolicon and incest, I love anime but those genres make me sick. I'm looking at you Harem authors.

I remember going through some problems in high school after my first break up, and really got into anime, and there is one that made me sick to my stomach...yasuga no sora...

But yeah I wish they banned those two genres.

So, you are a big enough jerk that you want something you don't enjoy be taken away from people that do enjoy it.
No surprise you had a bad breakup if that's the way you think.

People who think their views should be the beacon of morality should be gathered on an island and sunk in the Atlantic.

^Seconding this so very much. As disgusting as I find this stuff as long as real children are not involved why care?

Not going to work with the internet. Maybe a good chunk of /a/ could post about weird otaku-ish facts across the internet in the next few years and ruin all those attempts. I'd be up for that if such a movement happens. Cool

What these types of articles never seem to grasp is that the vast majority of the material that would have been affected by the proposed extension of CP laws to manga would be manga for teenagers, just as the majority of American novels featuring underage sex are Young Adult. The single biggest source of manga images of underage sex are shoujo high-school romances.

The thing is, the Japanese legislators are totally aware of this and in fact see it as a bonus. Who was the guy who gave an interview saying that every Japanese man had a right to have his wife be a virgin upon marriage and that girls' manga was a threat to Japanese society because it gave girls the idea it was OK to have boyfriends?

The rights of ink on paper must be protected! Next it should become illegal for any work to show some one dying because that would be murder!

Why do you have to pick on the Atlantic?

They already spoiled the discussion by calling it "child porn comics". The term child porn is filled with such emotional charge that it'll overshadow any other points and poison the well despite not being applicable.

Is there really such a difference between those things and just going to the pool or beach and seeing girls in swimsuits, though?

I'm very sorry to say, but yes, there is a major difference. Google "japan junior idols" and go to pictures. Those are the tame ones. What you won't find on google are the really creepy ones with girls as young as 6 doing provocative posing.

Yeah, because one has intense focus on the subject and is done for profit.
