....couldn't they just make it backwards compatible. Sucks, all my PS3 games are useless when I got my PS4.

Kougeru is correct, Rinkwolf. The PS4 lack the Cell Processor the PS3 has, that's why PS3 game are not compatible with PS4. Anyway, I'm still keeping my PS3 if I get a PS4, I have no plan to to get Playstation Now. |

PS3 emulators??? I don't think so! The cell architecture is very different to a conventional CPU. It's more like a GPU. There are PS2 emulators so they could potentially make the PS4 play PS2 games without too much trouble but I'm sure they have other things to sort out first. |

Indeed, a PS3 emulator on a PS4 wouldn't work because it wouldn't be able to off load graphical data to the graphics processor as it would on the PS3. And there's no way the PS4's CPU could handle all the processing load of the PS3's cpu and gpu. Hardware architecture matters so much, especially where 3D is concerned.
This is actually the same reason the 3DS doesn't handle Gameboy Advance emulation very well (as anyone who go the handful of ambassador promotional games will tell you there are noticeable limitations, compared to the original Game Boy and NES emulation) I'm not totally clear on this whole 'steaming gaming' thing though, The way I understand it, Sony will emulate the game off site, and pipe the visuals to your home console? What kind of control lag might that cause? |

This just doesn't sound like a very good system to me... But I already bought a PS3, so I'll just keep it whenever I get the PS4.
I never noticed any problems when I played the GBA Ambassador games on my 3DS? |

As long as the PS4 can have allotted space that will act as the PS3's Cell, it should be able to run PS3 (in theory at least. Which reality likes to disregard sometimes)

That's one of my concern, I mean what would happen if you lost your internet connection while playing a stream PS3 game on your PS4 and you didn't make a save, then you'll have to replay it again. That's what my concern about streaming a game like Playstation Now. |

And if Sony can charge you money to rent old PS3 games rather than let you play the ones you bought on your new PS4, all the better for them. PlayStation Now sounds terrible to me. I'd rather own my games than lease them from Sony.

I don't have any to test to be sure, but I recall being told that when you run a GBA game on the 3DS it deactivates the background dashboard (because it needs the system RAM it uses. Kind of like what Smash 3DS does), so when you quit the game, you have to restart the whole system. Also it doesn't support suspend states if the game offers it, and you can't suspend the game if you close the 3DS lid. This is because, to emulate a GBA game the system has to do it all on the CPU and system RAM. Which limits how much background stuff can go on. So while its technicality playing the game, there are no bells and whistles built into the emulator (like save states and game suspend) EDIT: Actually I'm wrong about the details, the 3DS hardware actually can simulate the CPU needed for the GBA. The problem is the CPU that does that, happens to be the one the system needs to run background stuff (like the dashboard and sleep mode). And you can't use the other CPUs because they aren't configured for GBA. Here's an article I found explaining the whole situation. |

If you lost your internet without saving, well it would be just like a game crashing and not saving. This is the big problem with the Playstation Now service. They act as if it is something new, it is not, streaming games have been around for years. And the platform addresses none of the problems. Specifically lag, disconnects etc. And yes input lag can be terrible on these services. It is worse than an MMO, since an MMO at least tries to disguise input lag by doing a lot of cast bars and whatnot. You cannot do this with a streaming video. A good test is to see how you currently do with online gaming, then factor it being worse than that. |

Thought people didn't like always-online gaming on their consoles?

Why are they useless? If you kept your PS3, then use that. That is what I do. |

They don't, that's why Ubisoft scrapped the always online DRM from their PC game titles.
My sentiment exactly, this was the same problem that Ubisoft always online DRM had. I mean what would happen if your game which used the "always online" DRM had drawbacks, the same applied to streaming game like Playstation now, here's the problem: -if your online-only game had you do manual save and not auto-save this is where the problem occur: What happen if you were manually saving your game and suddenly your internet had "hiccuped" (or just had a lost internet connection), you got kicked out of the game and the save never completed and the save file got corrupted because of that internet connection being cut off. That means you have to start all over again and that is unfortunate for anyone that put more then 10 hours of gameplay. -US internet infrastructure is far from perfect so online game streaming is not going to be the best gaming experience, we still have issues like our internet speed is even slower then Estonia and South Korea. So how can Playstation Now be able to do well in the US if our internet infrastructure has drawbacks and issues?? |

Whew... too rich for my blood.
There was always the option of not throwing your PS3 in the trash can if you really cared about still playing PS3 games. |
