@Hope
Handa (Barakamon) is voiced by Ono Daisuke, not Namikawa Daisuke!
......And I think I should finish up Space Dandy. I caught the first 3 or so episodes on TV and then just kinda let it go for no particular reason after that. That one zombie episode had me cracking up and QT is cute. With all the high praises I'll need to find some time to finish the series.

Kind of surprised at how high Psycho Pass finished considering this season has been a train wreck, but it is always possible that people voted for it as a whole rather than just the season that is airing in 2014. I personally went Parasyte, Fate, Barakamon, Nozaki, and Space Dandy, with honorable mentions to Mushishi and Hozuki.

My personal top 5 (from top to bottom): Persona 3 the Movie #2 Midsummer Knight's Dream, Sailor Moon Crystal, The Last -Naruto the Movie-, Cross Ange, Hamatora
I realized how many forgettable series there were this year. Honestly, these two movies I put on my list blew most of this year's fare out of the water. Not because they were mind-blowing or anything, but they were so much fun/emotional.
Happy Chanukkah.

Daimidaler was more liked than Dai Shogun? Try was more liked than G-Reco? Robot Girls Z wasn't liked that much? Other than that nothing out of the ordinary with this. Kind of surprised Gundam-san was never on the poll.
Edit: My five were Witchcraft Works, G-Reco, Cross Ange, Nobunagun, and Nobunaga The Fool, the last of which so far seems to be the best anime of the current decade (at least to me).

I'm surprised to say I'm mostly in agreement with the viewer's top 5 (though I'm a little more in line with some of the staff picks). NGNL is the only one I feel kinda shouldn't be up that high but it's a fun show even if it is super pandery so I can get why people liked it. Certainly wasn't expecting Tokyo Ghoul to be up so high with how much manga fans were whining about the pacing but I guess they were the vocal minority on that one.
On a side note though why the heck is there something BELOW Dai Shogun? What's wrong with you people?

My personal top 5 would be this:
5.- Barakamon
4.- Fate/Stay Night
3.- Mushishi
2.- Shirobako
1.- Space Dandy
I loved them, I followed them every week, but it was a tough choice, as I liked a ton of other shows this year (kudos to Nick Creamer for considering Sekai Seifuku a hidden gem. I also almost put it on my list).
When it comes to the big pole, I'm not surprised. I can see some really good titles up there, plus some that may not be too groundbreaking but I still really enjoyed (No Game, No Life, looking at you).
I hope we have another great year.

This year has felt really long to me, and I realized that I forgot about a lot of shows that aired in the winter or spring, or at least forgot that they aired this year. I feel like this year had a bunch of strong comedy, particularly Nozaki-kun, Barakamon, and Hoozuki no Reitetsu. Hoozuki wasn't as consistently strong as the others, but I am sucker for celestial bureaucracy comedies (I'm blaming the books Here Comes the Sun and Good Omens for this). All three of those shows were not sexual comedies, which is part of what sets them apart from others.
These lists definitely reminded me of a lot of shows that I need to finish, as well as others that I never got around to starting. The summer and fall both seemed particularly strong this year.

@Hope The manga for Tokyo ghoul was licensed by Viz media. Look forward to the release(I know I am)
There were a lot of good shows this year, so I'm not gonna really bother trying to make a list, but Fate/Stay Night, Tokyo Ghoul, No game No life, Garo and Rage of Bahamut would deffinitly be on it(this is just off the top of my head).
Also, I can't understand what my husband is saying is the most pleasant surprise this year, especially since I usaully keep my expectaions pretty low.

Daimidaler was worse in most aspects minus the exceptionally lackluster animation.

Very odd. All five of my picks wound up in the top ten...so much for individuality....
