Some lady needs to give these old men some free companionship then they won't resort to petty crime to get any semblance of a woman. They need a hug and to have some conversation with.

I assume the name isn't supposed to link to the profile of an anime production staff who's most likely completely unrelated to this?...

Well, Happosai did plan to reform and swear off panties, after meeting that nice daycare teacher...But then panty withdrawal set in.

Nobody owes this man anything, but he probably should seek professional help. I hope the courts mandate it.
Happosai, indeed

Makes me wonder, if they ever make another ova or finish the Ranma 1/2 tv series (like they did with Inuyasha), should Happosai be modernized to the 21st century? I can easily imagine him making selfies (with an stolen phone of course) of him wearing on the head his latest plunder and posting it to his twitter/tumblr account. How many followers would he have? Would his account be taken down or does free speech protects the photos he takes?

Do people put their name and address inside their underwear in Japan? Unless he followed them home, I don't understand how the man knew their names and where they lived. While stealing is bad, stalking these women is far, far worse. I'm saddened that what made the headline wasn't "Man stalks women" but "Man steals womens' underwear".

Underwear was stolen from their houses, so the address was obvious. Most people put their names on the outside of houses so the mailman can be sure if the mail is delivered to the right person, so the name would also be obvious if he knew the address.

There is no indication of stalking anywhere. The situation is confusing and poorly explained. However him 'returning' the panties appears to be subsequent to his arrest. Perhaps some poorly thought through punishment for him by the police and those involved? Who knows we need more information. However there is definitely nothing here to label him a stalker, just a thief.

Actually the underwear he had been arrested for was apparently from a laundromat, so no their address isn't obvious. Although I imagine given how much underwear he had, some had been stolen from houses. So he may have been 'returning' those?

He's a freak who needs professional help, but he lived the dream and helped reinforce a stereotype along the way.

In other words, he was pilfering clean undies. Pffft, amateur.
