So anyone else read the manga? I've yet to fully sit down and read it properly, as I am saving it for some reason. I'm planning on watching the rest of the anime series next week as a celebration of no exams, before reading the manga. It is well drawn and from what I've seen it does provide a more indepth view of some characters. However I am slightly concerned about complaints Asuka's role is reduced. But that could be fan boy rants, I haven't read the series properly.
My English is not good, but according to another forum http://www.evastore.jp/index.cgi?rm=detail&id=1452&genre=&page=&key=&8÷4=2±0 states volume 11 will arrive in Japan 2007/06/19. How long is the difference between Japan/Western releases? Apparently this is the new cover. I like it. So anyone else read/like/hate the manga? |

Here in Germany we've got a half year between Japanese and German release. So I think that NGE 11 will be released round X-Mas here.

Well, Vol. 10 came out in October 2006 in Japan, and I remember reviewing the Viz edition a couple of months ago, so you can expect about a 6 month lag.
Because of Sadamoto's slow schedule, the rest of the world has basically "caught up" with the Evangelion manga, and whenever a new one comes out, we just have to wait the amount of time it takes to translate, publish and distribute them. |

I have read up to volume 8 of the manga, and unfortunately that's the only side I've gotten of the series. To me it's okay, not a real winner but not a real loser either. An average job manga you could say.

That slated Japanese street date took me by surprise, I must admit. Given the extremely long delays between volumes 8 and 9, and then 9 and 10, I was ready to hunker down for another 18-24 months before another new volume would be announced. I'm not complaining about it, but it does make me wonder what caused the sudden uptick in terms of release frequency.

I've already stated my opinion on the Evangelion manga adaption before, but what the heck. I'd like it more if Sadamoto decided on whether he was doing an outright adaption or else taking the story and making it his own. Instead he does a combination of the two which makes it a really awkward read. Some of the stuff is interesting (the first couple or so volumes I did enjoy) but then it dissolves into something really trite (practically an entire chapter in volume eleven is lifted completely from The End of Evangelion, panel for panel). And yeah, complaints about the characters are usually right on this one. Sadamoto's a Rei fanboy, so he tries to force development on a character that is essentially a plot device in the anime; did a similar thing with Kaworu, with a bit better (if typical) results. Asuka gets shafted along with Ritsuko... In fact, there seems to be less of a focus on the adult characters in the manga than the anime, which is a shame as for all the teen angst in the series I find it rather refreshing to have a good adult cast like that in this type of mecha series. It has some purdy art, though.
Rebuild. I'd take a guess that Sadamoto wanted to finish up the needed material to fill eleven volumes and then devote his time to the upcoming three movies (the last two are forty-five minutes, creating a ninety minute movie). |

I really enjoyed the manga version to be honest and I read up to vol. 9. The TV series focused on all of the characters, but the manga version went on to focus more on Shinji and it showed how spoiler[much he suffered when he killed Toji. ] It is kind of weird though, the manga version started around the same time as the TV series and it took Sadamoto almost what, more than 10 years to finish.

Thinking back about it, this does seem likely. For a while, I was starting to wonder if Sadamoto was waiting for 2015 before finding it in him to finish the bloody thing off . |

It seems like I've been collecting this manga for years. Oh wait, I HAVE! Regardless of the leisurely (to say the least) production schedule, I gotta say I really enjoy the manga. It's a nice counterpart to the anime, and provides a few new wrinkles in an anime I've seen a hundred times. And it does the internal soul searching bits better than the anime, since it doesn't have to re-use stock footage.

I've finished the series just recently and I am waiting for the release of 11.. when ever that will be.
It certainly has its differences but that should be easy to expect. Like stated above, both Asuka and Ritsuko do get the long cold shaft and Rei is the one shafting them! Which really doesn't bother me because I dig her enigmatic, mysterious ways. There are actually a couple scenes in the manga concerning Rei that the anime lacked. The scenes not being too important for the overall plot but certainly for character relationship. I give the manga a very high rating. I'm a bit of an Evangelion nut so my view is a bit biased though. You'll enjoy it. |
