Who even knows this is still a thing? Or ever was?
Voyager Entertainment did ZERO to market this product. It's disgusting.

Penguintruth, Yamato 2199 or Starblazers 2199 is an excellent anime series. It looks stunning on blu ray. Hopefully the delay for blu ray 5 and 6 isn't too long.

I think he's just moaning about how awfully Voyager Entertainment has handled the 2199 release. Basically just exploiting the fact that they have exclusive distribution rights for Starblazers in a very Harmony Gold sort of way.

Yeah right? I have to wonder how well these are even selling, certainly it's nowhere even a fraction as well as the Japanese numbers.

I certainly am not supporting this release. I really really enjoyed this series, but I will not support this release that is barebones, no dub, and charging 40 bucks for 4 episodes.
Torrents for the show work perfectly fine Voyager
This was a property I had really hoped FUNimation or even Sentai would have picked up. The live action movie did well for Funimation so its sad this doesnt get a proper release.
But penguintruth is right, its really disgusting how there is ZERO marketing for such a great show. No streaming no nothing. I only stumbled upon it because of how beautiful the visuals are.

Does anyone know what Funimation is doing with the region 1 dvd blu ray release of Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection? They secured the rights 2 years ago.

I was actually pretty excited to hear that Yamato 2199 was picked up for North America, but I was completely put off by the "Star Blazers" rebranding. I think it really limits their market to middle-aged men feeling nostalgic. I'm 26 and knew about Yamato long before I'd ever heard of "Star Blazers".
This mishandling of the 2199 license is an unfortunate missed opportunity for reintroducing Yamato to a new generation.

Its disappointing. If i had the money i just buy the Japanese one straight up from Japan, though its like 60 bucks. I rather get it because its sub professionally, doesn't need edit stuff to make it read like Star Blazers. I personally wish they hadn't gone the way to rebranding everything meet a 40 year old dub.
I like sub's better and i enjoyed the original version of Yamato 2199. Let Star Blazers name rest in pleace. We're grown ups now.

- "Star Blazers" branding
- Too expensive
- No English dubbed version
- No marketing whatsoever
Voyager should have teamed up with an anime licensor that knows what it's doing.

Poor sales?? It wouldn't be the first time a show was dropped midway during release. While not cancelled yet this is why I'm waiting for all the discs to be released before buying any of them.

I'm not going to defend the questionable business decisions behind the format of this release, that's already water under the bridge, but I have still been supporting all of it to date and therefore hope this delay will not be too problematic. I really want to have all of Yamato 2199 in my collection.
For the record, the show itself is great and all they changed was the title on the packaging, not the rest of the character names or terms involved. The English subs are just fine.
From my point of view, which I do not pretend to force upon anyone else, it's worth sacrificing my wallet a little bit from time to time, especially after buying tons of usually lesser shows at comparatively cheap prices.

I picked the discs up as they were released because Star Blazers is my Anime gateway drug. I love Lupin, I love Speed Racer - but Star Blazers was what sold me on the genre. So price and crappy number of episodes per volume was not going to stand in my way, damnit!
That said, fudge Voyager for completely mishandling this release. Anybody else on the planet could have done a better job of doing this than you. And to think that you've stalled out 4/6th of the way there? That pisses me off like you wouldn't believe.

No dub, no promotion of any kind. No iTunes. No Amazon Video.
If they don't have any money then why even bother, just partner up with a company that has money and knows what they are doing.
Heck, it would be great if they marketed this to middle aged men feeling nostalgic...too bad these middle aged men have no idea that the show is out there, it's not like they google for Star Blazers Remake every day.
I bought these because I love the show but now I am afraid that they will not finish this realease...

Does someone have any insight into how a company with an almost non-existen track record in the industry managed to land the license of something like Yamato 2199?
I hope the license comes with some expiry date sow that we can get a more competent release at some point.

I'm pretty sure this company has the exclusive rights to Starblazers since the 70s. It's another Harmony Gold situation where a licensor has just been milking their past for decades and anything new must go through them because they hold all the domestic rights in perpetuity, because NOBODY in the 70s and 80s thought this crap would still matter 40 years latter.
