The movie is getting more publicity than I thought it would which hopefully means more funding for more racing scenes. I read the USA Today paper while at the doctor's office and I saw the car and it looks a little cheezy but it does really look like what the car would look like in real life.
I would have thought RAIN have a bigger part, he would definetely have brought in a larger female, especially asian female, audience. I'm a guy and I have no shame in saying Rain is actually a pretty good singer and I like his music, but I didn't even know he was so popular not only in Asia but the world until I saw him on the Time Magazine poll for most influential person.

Why the *bleep* do they use real animals for cartoon characters which are clearly meant to be done in cg?! Odie and Underdog sucked. Why will Chim Chim be any better? I'm also getting bad vibes about them saying the setting is futuristic.

I'm soooo glad they didn't come up with a "re-imagined" version of the Mach 5. If the car looked any different, it would totally take me out of the feel of Speed Racer.

I take it from your post that they will be using a flesh-and blood chimp to play Chim Chim? If so, from other movies and show's I've seen with chimps, they do a pretty good job. I don't know how old you are, but you may be familiar with a TV series called "BJ and the Bear" and Clint Eastwood's two movies "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Any Which Way You Can" The chimps all performed very well IMO. I can imagine a dog not doing so hot though. It really boils down to how good the animal handler and trainer are.
Besides, If all of the other characters in the movie were flesh-and-blood, it would seem kinda out of place to have a CG chimp running around; no matter how good it looked.

It didn't hurt Scooby Doo.

They had Computer Graphics in the late sixties?! Ohhh, you mean like Garfield.
No no, I get what you are saying, cheese factor. I got it.
edit: changed seventies to sixties

Hmm. Never saw that one. I'll just try to be optimistic that it will be fine.

The ape in the two Eastwood movies was called Clyde and he was an orangutan, not a chimp . . .

They are using a real animal... so hopefully that will work...
And I have to say, I LOVE the car! It looks HOT!
Now if they just had a publicity poster showing the front razor blades whizzing out... that would be totally cool...

The car looks unbelievable! I'm glad the Wachowski's didn't "futurize" it.

This movie keeps looking better and better. Wachowski brothers. Kristina Ricci to play Trixie. John Goodman, Susan Sarandon. Awesome replica of Mach 5. A real Chimp. Fully CG characters end up looking like crap. Scooby Do was horrible, Garfield, Jar Jar Binks... ugh.
And if Rain had a larger part, I'd be disappointed. I'm not a fan of singers getting major acting roles. But they HAVE added to the eye candy with him. Emile Hirsch is already considered a pretty boy of Holly Wood for all the younger girls. Then there's Matthew Fox for all the older ladies of the LOST age range *if he gets out of that mask at all in the movie*. It doesn't look like pulling in the girl audience will be very hard for this movie at all.
Can't wait to see what the Wachowshi brother's show us next with this movie. If it's anywhere as dedicated to the original as their V for Vendetta was, it'll be fantastic.

Hear hear. It (shock and surprise) actually looks like the Mach 5. This bodes a bit well for the rest of the movie, as at least they have that much respect for the matertial not to change something as iconic as the car.
NOTE TO PRODUCERS OF TREK XI--Learn from this example. Do not wank around with USS Enterprise!
