I find this to be good news since I've got 3 game cube controllers "official" already and it will be fun to play the new smash bros game using one. Now I'm wondering is Nintendo planning on releasing digital game-cube games soon to the virtual market??

Looks like a smash branded GameCube controller in the picture. It would be pretty cool if they actually release those! Also, I'm guessing these GameCube adapters will be compatible with wavebird controllers?

I wouldn't see why not, NOA is pretty good about that sort of thing I just hope it doesn't become a novelty like the card e reader did.

I find it hilarious that they have to make controllers compatible from a system that's 13 years old now as a marketing ploy to make their new consoles more appealing.

It kind of just says that Smash on Wii U will use cube controllers. Not the whole system.

Nintendo really has no choice here. The Gamecube's controller allows for accurate C-stick smashes and analog input, and they're trying to ensure that competitions like Evo finally use a recent Smash Bros. game as the Gamecube's Melee is still used as the competition version of Smash Bros. to this day. Brawl (Wii) is a forgotten footnote.

I agree, this is just getting really sad. Nintendo is the lame family dog that has given you years of service so no one has the heart to ends its suffering and put it down.

At least they're bringing things back instead of dropping them, like Kinect.
This move is pretty much just an optional extra to please the hardcore Super Smash Bros. fanbase and I doubt it will be used for future games. Even if Gamecube games are eventually released on the Virtual Console, I can just see them mapping the controls to the Wii U Pro Controller (as although it has a different button layout, it has enough buttons/sticks).

uh oh someone made a funny
no reason to ever buy a gamecube game again ever. I can't even think of one exclusive that cannot be played or bought on ye olde wii. besides, gamecubes are cheap as dirt.
kinect, such a failure it is, indeed.

With how much fun Mario Kart 8 has been for me and many others, I can't even fathom why it needs to be "put down".
I'm not always happy with Nintendo's decisions, even on the game level, but they most certainly are still well and alive, and the only company of which I would buy their console day one.
The option for GCN controllers hurts absolutely nobody, nor does it reflect badly upon the company. Why does giving the fans what they want reflect badly on them? It's not like they're taking away the compatibility of the controllers that are current generation (the Game Pad and Pro Controller). It's a mere option.
