this little detail concerns me

(does that mean they're really really not planning on having a diversity of ethnicities in the movie...?)

Yep, true.

This is very interesting to see, but I wonder who's going to be lucky to be in the movie.

Not only Japanese, or even Asians, have natural black hair, you know...

If they were going to be true-ish to the original material, they would need to find an almost 100% European cast who spoke flawless Japanese. Mikasa and (briefly) her mother would be Japanese, since supposedly they are (were) the only Asians left.

Considering that Japanese casting agencies tell the Japanese studios what the script is going to be, there's pretty much zero chance that the end result is going to look anything like the Attack on Titan that the fans know. It will have titans and characters with familiar names. Other than that, don't get your hopes up.

I'm kind of aware of that

I was also going to mention that before that it's also very strange by itself because some japanese has a lighter color (example the actor that is going to be the main character unless it's not his real color which is possible)

but having dark hair remains kind of a general characteristic of asian people, I was saying that more in that sense (and yes, other people from other countries can have black hair but I guess you can see at what I'm refering to, right?)

well, given one of the good and appealing points in AoT is his diversity between the charas I had some hopes (I mean, if they erase that is like crushing part of the story no?)

even if they were going the AU way (which is more than probably what is gonna happen because of where they're gonna make the film, that abandoned city looks way too modern) I had some hopes, and I guess I will still have some hopes until officially said otherwise but seriously, if it doesn't happen it will be sad... :/

I wish I had much let alone $30 in my banking account. Not being able to do that is, as internet memes say, "epic fail" (the joke also being that "epic" and "Titans" are in Greek myths).

I just don't see the point of paying $400 as an extra for possibly "low" budget Japanese film with not-so-impressive production designs. Besides, aren't extras supposed to be paid in first place?

I don't know about their payment arrangement but I would gather agreeing to be an extra means you agree to be subject Japanes film business practices.

Also, for the movie itself, I think that it could be considered high budget to Japan with the exchange ratio.

Kind of disappointing to think that there won't be as much diversity, but it'd probably be a logistical nightmare. The live action Nodame Cantabile movies had European(?) extras, and they either couldn't act or had to use the script's awkwardly structured English sentences. Pretty much the only movie I can think of that did this right (and my J-movie list is super short as it is) was the first Thermae Romae which had plenty of non-Asian background characters (who didn't talk), and was smart enough to make their lead actor Hiroshi Abe, who doesn't look typically Japanese; when I watched it, everyone in the room thought he was Italian. ^^;

So you have to have dark hair...

They said nothing of skin color, though. Idea

Oh my god, that's funny (though I guess I can kinda see why they would make that mistake).

So would they examine you to make sure your hair is in fact natural or not just really dark brown? lol
This almost seemed tempting until I remembered I almost ended up an extra for The Last Airbender (not that it wasn't cool for the extras) and at least that was free. With the news I keep hearing, unless it's a very creative AU (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't though), I'm not having much hopes for this film.
