I personally think think this is great since the movie really earned it. Godzilla needs more fans :p
But seriously the movie is really good despite my complaints about the B actors not doing anything much to be impressed about, but it's now based from the original monster movie - unlike the 1999 version which was not bad but more of a city-version of Jurassic Park rather than Godzilla lol
And if the movie is a success then more Godzilla for us! ^ u^

Nice. The movie has heavy flaws, but is still good. I would like an expansion of this franchise for US theaters, and I like that idea better than all the overdone comic book hero movies.
Godzilla is my favorite superhero.

Godzilla's performed very well compared to opening weekend projections based on tracking (~$60 million) and had an excellent opening. The one box office negative I could point out is that the final weekend esitmate is down about $5 million compared to the early weekend estimate, meaning it could be rather frontloaded (as are most blockbusters that aren't Frozen), but we'll have to wait for the weekend actuals on Monday to see if that's the case.
Godzilla should have a higher-than-usual Monday number, being Victoria Day here in Canada (which counts as "domestic").
The real box office test, of course, is whether Godzilla can hold its own against X-Men: Days of Future Past on Memorial Day weekend, although the last couple of X-Men-related movies have underperformed (shame, since First Class was fantastic, although I was part of the problem as I didn't see it until I took a chance and bought the Blu-Ray blind off a Walmart discount rack last year).

I just saw the movie last night. I thought the movie was, good though it was less fun than I thought watching it.

Tenchi: Supposedly, the new X-Men movie's going to be huge.

Expectations are absolutely everything in that business. This movie opened $30m or so ahead of what they expected - that's gigantic. Sequel's already on the way.

This was a fine old fashioned monster film. Slow build up with character and plot exposition, melodramatic moments of loss and pain, glimpses of mysterious and potentially dangerous creatures and then BANG- GODZILLA in all his god like glory. Very entertaining. The teenagers in back of me cheered when Godzilla did what Godzilla needed to do. It was heartwarming.

Exactly. I saw it yesterday. The special effects are awesome and Godzilla's roar shook the theater. The movie actually starts off being very (human) character- and relationship-oriented, then turns to all-action pretty much in its second half; but in a weird sense - the second half is about character too, as in - Godzilla. Godzilla becomes the action hero himself towards the end.
I did think Ken Watanabe got the short end of the stick, though. He does a lot of staring in amazement but doesn't get a lot of speaking lines.

Have him fight (or team up with) the Jaegers against even stranger monsters.
It's a shame my theater is showing the 3D on their LIEMAX screen, I wish I could just see it in 2D on that.

MORE GODZILLA!
And yes, people pointed out the well paced structure of the film, which I would agree. Human characters - though not the best, could still keep you there watching, but the best part was it leads to Godzilla showing up. The direction was superb for that. It's like a Spielberg movie hehe
