Speaking of Tuna Empire, they also have a release where a Japanese girl ends up in Afghanistan somehow and proceeds to single-handily disband Al-Qaeda though a giant orgy convincing them all the West isn't so bad after all... until Bush comes by and carpet bombs them at the end. It is without a doubt the single most bizarre thing I've ever read, and the shock of turning a page and seeing someone shout "I'm Osama Bin Laden!" suddenly in a hentai manga simply cannot ever be forgotten |

Well, not really true. See: Missouri Man Gets 3 Years for Reading 'Incest Comics' (CBLDF coverage). For live action, see Filmmaker Gets 4 Years for Grossing Out Jurors. Your citation of Jesus Castillo's case highlights that. There have been other cases like Handley's and western comics and live action. But notice how Toshio Maeda's manga that landed Castillo in prison and other porn involved in these cases or similar to them are still legally around? That's how obscenity laws work in the US (in contrast to other countries). |

Thanks for the links! I'm saddened but not surprised by the child-porn-comics conviction since, as with Christopher Handley case, the US justice system and public are EXTREMELY harsh on drawn or written porn involving childlike characters. (It sounds like the incest bit was just the icing on the cake). The obscenity conviction was surprising, as disgusting as the guy's stuff sounds. ("I feel like I just won the Academy Award. If an artist can offend so many people that he has to go to prison to protect society, that's really saying something." -- Ira Isaacs) |

I have some older (untranslated) H manga where the covers aren't porny at all. The only indication on the outside that it's porn is the "seinen comic" mark and the publisher or imprint's name. Not sure when that stopped being a thing. |

Well, I'll say thank you for the ero-manga section in Manga: The Complete Guide. It was probably the part I found most interesting and I go back and consult the section once in a while. I wish people did talk/review seriously about the category more.
Funny enough, I've heard the "harmful publications" groups tend to overlook the stuff aimed at ladies more since the covers can be less obvious. Though I have seen a few of those that made me wonder how someone didn't see them as a detriment vs. screaming out "buy me!". But, then such things are all so subjective. If I can ask a question about one point in the article though... Regarding Toshio Maeda and the Castillo court case in the U.S.: (This has come up on ANN before I think.) I thought while one of Maeda's titles was also wrapped up initially in the case- the conviction came on an issue of Demon Beast Invasion: The Fallen. At least that's what written on the CBLDF case file. However that title isn't by Maeda, instead an American team. And Castillo himself (albeit not very specific) seemed to recognize that in an interview back in 2003. Wasn't Maeda's original not published in English until later anyway? Or am I mistaken? (It's so confusing.) |

These were fun to collect in the 90's.
Big chains like the WoW store and Virgin megastore used to have em. |

Sadly, 64 pounds of porn is equivalent to like, half a gigabyte at best... hehehehe

I don't know if Jason reads the comments often but I resent this comment... "Furthemore, since porn is usually, shall we say, an impulse purchase, hardly anyone seeks out "classic" porn except for the most dedicated hipsters, historians and weirdos."
I actively seek out eromanga. I make it an active part of all my trips to Mandarake to hunt down classic works from some of my favorite mangaka (a good small number of them started off as eromanga artists). I also tend to enjoy tracking annual/seasonal fetish trends in eromanga. That whole industry is really fascinating to me. |

I felt the same. I doubt that there is any data on the popularity but "hardly anyone" seems a bit dismissive. I do not even know how a "hipster" would be defined in this context, and I am definitely not an historian. But I guess that I must admit to being a bit of a weirdo. I do occasionally check eBay for some classic hentai. I would love to find more like Bondage Fairies, Hot Tails, and Misty girl Extreme. all of which were Eros releases. Of course I cannot say that "usually ... an impulse purchase" is wrong because I definitely do a lot of that. But hentai can be more than just fapping material. Not that there's anything wrong with that. |

I like this stuff what I would like to see is a complete printing of the manga stories that were bases of the Cool Devices anime series. I would also like to know if their was more to the Slave Fighter Maya the anime left that story hanging. As to digital comics I am on a fix income and can't afford a e-reader and there is the problem of plan obsolesce forcing the user to buy the latest device to read your reading material. And there always the other problems of lost due to the e-reader being lost, stolen, or falling into water or any other liquid and being destroyed.

Since I myself just spent days reading through a pile of classic porn, i certainly didn't meant it as an *insult*. |

Now I am ribbing Jason, since we are pals to an extent...I think I fall into weirdo, but I don't wanna be associated with likes of hipsters and historians. Those guys are real freaks. |

You're right, my mistake! The comic that got him arrested was actually drawn by CPM's old American porn comix team, "Bare Bear Press." I think I had just tried to blot its existence out of my memory... |
