The sequel had better fix this, I expect it constantly from that director and that character designer and that studio.

You should note that famed character designer Nobuteru Yuuki worked on this series, and it's about on par with Ozuma for non-inspiration.

the character designs for this one turned off a lot of my friends who watch fanservice shows, so you can tell they are particularly bad. th only thing this show has going over other fanservice shows is the camel toe scenes.

I thought it was intended as a redo {even with the Two in the title} - I'd call it a readaptation but that's assuming the original manga isn't the source of the problems. And it kind of is.
I thought the original series was likable, maybe, though I have to admit that I didn't watch it until I heard Funimation was releasing it - though it was in my streaming watch list for more than a year. And I don't remember much from it except I didn't hate it.

Right now it appears as though Maken-ki Two is going to be following up the original anime, since Xebec's (season 2) episode 0 OVA takes place directly following AIC's (season 1) episode 13 OVA.
However, it seems doubtful Maken-ki Two will follow the manga, and if it does, then only thematically. The first anime already covered all the events of the manga that actually occur at Tenbi Academy aside from the battle with Venus, and based on Xebec's episode 0 and the trailer for Maken-ki Two, all the story events of the tropical island are either being skipped over, or are going to be re-imagined to take place at the school for this new season.
On the bright side, Hiraku Kaneko's directing season 2, so the fanservice is being ramped up to maximum...

Yes, hopefully the rest of season two is like the ep 0 OVA

Yuuki's (very odd/perplexing/how-and-why) involvement is the only thing that has me intrigued to watch it, even though fanservice shows aren't my thing and the plot is as indistinct as they come. But is it really a surprise that the show seems to be roundly disregarded when you have M.D. Geist's director at the helm?

I strongly disagree with this.
Maken-ki had a set flow of events, a sensible setting, a pleasant and engaging atmosphere, and actually properly builds on its central characters, while delivering some okay fanservice.
Martial Hearts is pretty much a nonsensical series of brawls until the ending which turns the whole thing into a headtrip.

SO would I. Sure its inferior to say highschool DxD , but its still a preety decent ecchi/harem fanservice series. but what can i say. when it comes to these type of series, it will always get trashed & get very bad reviews.

Not always; Theron likes fanservice and is usually quite generous. Various Queen's Blade releases have gotten B or B-, High School DxD got a B, Mayo Chiki! got a B-, while Highschool of the Dead episodes 1-6 got an A-. Those aren't terrible grades, and the shows in question were not trashed but rather accepted for what they were.

bad mistyping. i actually meant that fanservice that are in Maken-Ki's level are usually get trashed. one was girls bravo which brought fanservice to a whole new level of ecchi and the other was ufo ultramaiden Valkyrie. both was good series.
though yea other fanservice like highschool D got the exception, as well as strike witches which was the bigger surprise, but its ecchiness is nowhere near this series level, which begs the question, how much is too much?
