I've been wanting a Sonic Movie since I was like 4-5 years old... Now as a 22 year old man the potential of it finally happening makes me giddy.
Bonus if the film uses the SATAM/Archie Freedom Fighter cast on top of the SEGA characters. * it probably won't. Especially if it's somehow related to the upcoming Sonic Boom cartoon, but hey, I can dream*

It's worth noting that they were registered by Sony Pictures, going by the email name.
In any event, this is very curious. I'm actually surprised Sega of Japan has been this willing to do projects with foreign studios as of late, since they seem so reluctant in the past to do so. This seem to happen around the time of Sonic Adventure happened, where Sega of Japan became a bit more controlling over the property internationally.
Regardless, this could turn out to be very interesting, provided it's actually done right. I would seriously hope the movie is animated (I'd prefer 2D, but I get the feeling it's either going to be CGI or Live Action), but I can never tell what they plan to do. I can only imagine how the Sonic character would work in the real world, not counting that fan film that happened recently...

If it is sony my guess is the film will be CGI.
Also, probably impossible, but if they could get Jallell White back to voice Sonic for the movie, I would die of joy.
But yes, depending on how this plays out, could be awesome, or horrible!
But between this and the upcoming Sonic Boom cartoon set to air on CN next fall seems SEGA is determined to make ol blue n spinny a household name again. I for one am more then OK with this as long as things turn out well.

Since Sonic is based off a video game franchise, CGI doesn't bother me at all.
However, the character does not translate well to non-video game medium. None of his cartoons, neither Japanese nor American, have been very good. I'm not a gamer at all, but even I enjoy the Sonic Adventure games (when I do play them), as well as some of the classic ones (although it's been a few years since I've played those). While I watched Sonic X a lot when I was younger, the show doesn't hold up at all anymore. The anime "movie" (OVA) was pretty forgettable when I watched it a couple years ago, and the DiC cartoons were almost as laughable as the Mario and Zelda shows, and pretty dated now. The people working on the new show/movie better take some hints and learn from past mistakes. The characters are all really fun and distinct. The writers just need to know what to do with them.
Although I do realize I'm a bit older than the franchise's demographic, and it might just not be my place to judge.

I'd disagree, I think SATAM was a solid cartoon. And while AOSTH may have not been more then " lol look at sonic pulling looney tunes style pranks on these stupid robots". It worked well enough for what it was.
I'd say it wasn't till Underground where things started going downhill. True both it and X have afew decent eps here and there, but neither are all that fun to rewatch, at least not for me.
I do agree though, that both the movie and the upcoming cartoon Sonic Boom, should take a look at past animations, try to work out what they think does & doesn't work.

The Sonic the Hedgehog comic from Archie Comics is one of the best all ages 'super-hero' titles on the stands. Sonic can totally handle a non-game narative.
Now granted the chances of the StH movie staring the Freedom Fighters cast is practically nil. Which would be the only reason I'd care to watch it.

As someone who plays sonic games and likes the characters it'll definitely be interesting but if there aren't any competent writers involved this it'll be a train wreck really fast. (pun not intended)

The Sonic games are basically movies you have to play anyway, so I hope they take advantage of all those characters they have and not shuffle Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Amy, and Knuckles with some movie-exclusive cyphers. At this point, it is extremely suspect to me when Shadow, Rouge, and the Chaotix are left out of games. I'd even argue it's weird when Cream and Cheese are left out...
Alternatively, I'm not against a Pokémon: The Origins dealio where we get faithful movie versions of the Adventure games.

Agreed. Both the Sonic & Mega Man comics are solid reads. * even with all the legal hassles the book has been through because of ex -writer Ken Penders. *. If SEGA were smart they'd make a movie to appeal to the long Established fanbases here. But yeah, probably won't see hide nor hair of the FF unless were super lucky.
On the bright side, the potential of seeing characters such as Knuckles or Blaze on the big-screen makes me giddy none the less!

Since there are very few humans, why even bother with live action. If they do, then at least get Danny DeVito as Eggman.

"SatAM" was the better show, but while it may have been a decent cartoon for it's time, it's gotten really old, and I find it really cheesy, but I do like it's plot-based angle though, which was ahead of it's time. I admit I didn't grow up with it though, so I'm just not that attached to it.
"The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" was pretty terrible though and clearly did not take it's audience seriously. IMO, it's about as bad as what I've seen of Underground.
As for the comic books, I do remember liking those when I read a few of them when I was younger.
