I had the opposite reaction lol. I didn't find the first 3 episodes of Love Lab funny at all and ended up dropping it which is something I rarely do. That said, the character designs are good so Ill give it 3 episodes as well

I'm torn between A) the suspicion that this is just more of the same, and B) the realization that this same description could almost be used for "Maison Ikkoku."

Yep, they had me at "from the author of Love Lab". Easily the funniest show last season.

Love Lab was one of my favorites from 2013 so I'm definitely interested in this. If they can get Masahiko Oota and Dogakobo again for the adaptation then it will be my most anticipated project by far.
