This is cool. I've been meaning to read the manga for a while and I always wondered why it never had an anime adaptation back closer to when it was being published. I'll probably still read the manga first, but I'm curious, especially to how close they'll stick to the manga's look and design considering it ended almost 20 years ago.

I can't believe it took this long. I'm gonna wait and see who's doing it before getting excited.

Very interesting, definitely excited to see this. I remember some of my friends reading this manga before so I'll be sure to check that out as well.

Wow, I'm surprised a manga published so many years ago is getting an anime now. I wonder why they decided to make an anime for it now, so many years later.

Because of the live-action. |

I understand that 23 years is a long time, but then I wonder what your reaction was to anime TV series for titles like Ring ni Kakero 1 (2004, 27 years after it debuted), Kochikame (1996, 20 years), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (1987, 25 years), Play Ball (2005, 35 years), or even Golgo 13 (1968, 40 years!)... The age of the manga has no real effect on whether or not something is worthy to adapt into an anime; it's about if there's a fanbase out there for it. Anyway, Parasyte seems to be an fondly remembered series in Japan, so making an anime seems like a logical idea, especially when it can cross-promote with some live-action movies. Also, there's always new people to make into fans. Personally, I'm interested in checking this anime out whenever it debuts. |

^Yeah, but how often is a live-action film produced for a 20-year-old property? I loved the Parasyte manga and am thrilled about this news, but there's got to be an interesting story behind it.

Way boss. I never expected that Parasyte would be animated, so this is a cool surprise. It seems rather late it to be being adapted in any form, although I'm sure not complaining that it. It's an uncommonly interesting, as well as sometimes rather satisfyingly uncomfortable, science fiction-horror story. Animation seems like the best medium for an adaptation of it. I have a feeling that the live-action films will involve some miserable-looking computer generated imagery. There are some things in the manga that could look really cool if animated well.
There's also that time that the protagonist's hand turns into a penis. I wonder how they're going to handle that. (Don't make it a Cobra, somebody already tried that; it was lame) I would like to think that the animated adaptation will restrain or add some sophistication to the 'Humanity is the real parasite!' buncombe. A slightly larger, more active part for Ms. Tamura would be nice too. Even if they just play the adaptation straight, as long as they don't monkey with the story, it should be fine. |

Yamato had a live-action movie recently. Gatchaman had a live-action movie recently. Ashita no Joe had a live-action movie recently. Tiger Mask is getting a live-action movie soon. And that's just a portion, honestly. If anything, older manga gets made into live-action movies more often than anime. |

That's awesome. I love Parasyte and its cool to see it get an anime. A few minor points in the story could use some ironing out, but its a pretty solid story. I'll be curious to see if they stick with the older style art for the anime, which I liked in general, or if they will update it or go for a totally different look. It'll probably be 12-13 episodes and if they don't mess with it too much it will probably be an instant buy for me when its licensed.

Oooh, neat!
Other comments made me have to go look, I had no idea this series ran from 1989 to 1995. I honestly thought it was waaaay more recently, like early 00s maybe (with me somehow ignoring that Tokyopop got it well before DelRey did, and it was old enough into US publication for it to be flipped and have name changes because that was the norm. But I didn't know Tokyopoop has published it when DelRey started). Maybe DelRey's more recent publication threw me off on what year it was made. Oh and how they released the first and second volume 9 months apart and 2 and 3 were far apart, then 4-8 came fairly quickly, it made me wonder what the hold up was, and it's usually because it's still ongoing in Japan. I really hope they get that uncanny valley look down like the manga has. And I hope this prompts Kodansha to bring over Historie (glad they decided to snag Parasyte from DelRey and reprint it all, that was very nice of them) But what this really does is give me hope that other older series from the 90s might get proper anime too. Banana Fish, From Far Away, Basara, Please Save My Earth, there's plenty of needy manga out there! Something tells me Cipher couldn't get one now though, it's totally a product of its time when it comes to pop culture and trying to make it 80s now that the era has passed just isn't going to work ever. But takes place in the 80s Banana Fish still deserves it. Excited to see how this anime and the movies turn out! |

Yesssssssss!! Ever since I discovered this series 2 years ago, it's been one of my favorites. I can just see all the fights that'll look great animated. I just hope they don't attempt to tone it down at all. The manga was adult, and this should be too.

There's already a live-action Parasyte movie. It's called The Host.

Wow, first the movie announcement and now this. It's a Parasyte Renaissance! Somehow, I think Parasyte is better suited to anime anyway than live-action, as it's probably going to be easier to depict some of the weird morphings in animation.
I concur that 12-13 episodes would be optimal. The manga was a pretty quick read, as it wasn't too text heavy, and I have a hard time seeing how the manga story could be stretched to 24-26 episodes. In any event, I can't wait to see how this turns out. Maybe with this renewed interest in older "WTF sci-fi" manga, maybe someone will get the idea of finally animating the rest of Alien Nine, too. Hey, a guy can dream, right? |

Awesome. It's one of my favorite manga series so hopefully both the movies and anime will do the story justice. Can't wait!
