i was wondering about that for a while, does the amount of manga sold influences them to make it into an anime? or they just make it into an anime because they feel like it

my guess would be popularity. if a mainstream manga gets animated, it's able to reach a bigger audience.

Anime is often little more than an advertising-supported advertisement for the original manga. Did that make any sense? In other words, a surprising amount of anime is created almost as though it were an infomercial for the manga version. You can imagine how heartbroken I was when I realized this, seeing as how I love anime and get virtually nothing from the world of manga. But it explains a whole hell of a lot, like why so many anime don't have real endings (the manga was still in production when the animated infomercials ended).

Anyway, as for which manga become anime, I would imagine that it's dictated by many of the same influences as anywhere else (the perceived appeal of the source content, the ability of those who pitch the idea, the expected advertiser support, the freedom allowed by the copyright owner's contract, the cut allowed from ancillary paraphernalia, etc.). That's all a guess though, as I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

Do you think money comes out of trees? Razz It's hard to just put anything out there on TV and make it sell (or get TV ratings). Gotta put out the investment to make a project turn out well.

Popularity indeed plays a major factor. Besides making the anime - there's merchandising from anime figures, DVDs, CDs, posters, and other miscellaneous stuff.

While not all anime requires a manga beforehand, some of the best anime actually did not have a manga counterpart -- until after the anime proved itself.
