Should there be some kind of full disclosure that an ANN staff member is a member of the group that created this?

Nice.
Good to see ANN venturing on the safe side when it comes to promotion of their own staff's work. Winter Wolves had plenty of games they made before this one. What merited this getting an 'interest' article over those? |

Actually, they didn't work particularly on this version, but they are currently working on their next game.
Also, the increased use of the "interest" tag may be the reason it's reported on this time as well. |

It's going to be the same game, just with female love interests instead of male.
At least, that's how I took it from Hope's blog entry. |

1. Bamboo noticed this one, but not the others, I guess. We don't all sit in an office together and decide on these stories as a group. 2. Hope didn't work on this version of the game. There are two versions - this one and a girls' love version that's out next year. She was hired freelance to write that one. 3. Hope works for us on a freelance basis, just like anyone else who writes on the internet. Many of our freelancers have worked on various anime and anime-related releases over the years, many of which have been covered on this site. We don't control what our freelancers work on, and they don't control our coverage of it. I wouldn't hire Hope to review or cover this game, and Bamboo picking its existence up as an interest article has nothing to do with her working on a version of it. Anyone who has worked on a product is not invited by this site to review it or cover it otherwise, period. That's where conflict of interest starts and stops. If you're going to get all paranoid "conflict-of-interest!!" at least know what you're talking about. |

Been wanting to try a WW game (or any indie VN) and this one looks interesting. I always like having something additional to the romance angle, like a mystery or adventure story so maybe I'll give this one a tr-(available for Mac OSX 10.6+) NOOOO THWARTED AGAIN BY MY CRIMINALLY OUTDATED MAC! -_-

Relax, people.
1. A new group of people are handling the interest feed now versus previously, so stuff that's picked up by us now may not have been picked up previously. 2. We don't know every single thing that occurs at every second of the internet. When people ask, "Why didn't you cover this?" my response is usually, "Because we didn't know about it. Please email us, and we'll credit you for the lead." Btw, the email is interest@ann, and we do very much appreciate news leads. 3. Lynzee picked up this lead, and we both agreed it was a neat story, and decided it was worth writing about. Neither of us knew that Hope was working on the next installment of the game (congrats, Hope!). It may surprise you to know that not every writer at ANN reads everyone else's blogs or are intimately connected with every detail of their lives. When freelancers work on a project, there is no all-company email that goes out saying, "HEY GUYS, GUESS WHAT I'M DOING NOW." |

I literally wrote this because we got a random company PR in the inbox and thought "Oh look, an otome game that English-speaking fans can actually buy and read." That's it. I don't, nor have I ever, read Hope's blog. The Winter Wolves website, from what I read, makes no mention of the staff involved (believe me, I looked). But yes, this is totally a company wide conspiracy to promote this game. Seriously? |

Zac, thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware how ANN is structured or what the policy on this was.
Bamboo and Lynzee, I happen to follow Hope on twitter and have a decent memory. I'm sorry if it came off like I'm a stalker or trying to accuse ANN of anything. It was an honest question, and I thought -as Bamboo suggested is the case- maybe some dots had been missed and not been connected. I wasn't trying to expose unethical behavior, but prevent it. I've seen other users pose corrections to news articles in the forums, and that's all my question was supposed to be. I'm sorry it's become such a ruckus, and I'm glad nothing uncouth has happened here. |

Ron is not a dateable option (it should have been obvious from the description of 4 romanceable guys. Ron happens to be Ted's father. The videos regarding the cast are a bit misleading.
I have bought the game and gotten all the endings so I can assure you that Ron is definitely not an option. Ted, Kurt, Darren and Jeff are the different options for romance. In regards to the game, it is brilliant, I really enjoyed all the boys paths. Can't wait for the girls paths to be done. |

That's not really anything special, though, which is why it was weird to me that this was given an interest article, and not just a press release or something. About half the otome games on the list I linked are OEL. |

Great job! You found a website listing all the OEL games released ever (as opposed to just recently) some of which are unoffiical, incomplete, and don't bother sending their PRs over to us. There's about, what...30ish games listed here, less of which are even OEL? Since I don't scour the internet for obscure OEL content, these rarely if ever get written up. I guess we can just write none of them up since some already exist? I'm not even sure what your point is. |

Could you calm it with the sarcasm...? My point is this: I was just wondering why this OEL otome game was randomly written up when it's not the only commercial one to come out recently or ever. You said your thought process was that this is an otome game that English speaking fans can read and play, but it's not like this is the first time that's happened. Or even the first time in a while. But I see it's because they sent you a press release--in which case, I was wondering why it didn't just have its press release posted, instead of getting an interest article as if this OEL otome game in particular is something to be informed about. But you can obviously write about what you want. Also, you could always not look at the ones that are incomplete and unofficial. I counted 34 completed original OEL games. If you wanted to see which ones were recent, you could look through the posts on the rest of the site. |

Because I thought it was interesting. You don't seem to find it interesting. You'll find the feed works much better when you read what is interesting to you. Almost every thread we have someone come in and make internet-flails about "why is this interesting? I don't think this is interesting! This isn't relevant to me for XYZ reason." The Interest section has gotten a change up lately and one of those is writing about more accessible items to English-readers. We didn't previously focus on that. Now we do. Also 34 games over the last five-ish years is peanuts. |
