These all sound neat. You would think the bad guys in Terra Formars woul be a little ...problematic ? Ore Monogatari sounds really interesting

I'm excited about Ore Monogatari, but it's definitely a "works better in Japan" type of series, so I hope it has a chance here.

What a f-ening let down. Battle Royale the side story and not the 15 volume series as a license rescue, VIZ you just lost a sale.

Same as when they announced a another reprint/edit of the novel and not the manga.

I was dying to be able to own the series that is now out of print and it not piece of garbage translation that came from Tokyo Pop. Guess I'll stick with few RAW volumes that I do own.

I think your being a little too negative about the Tokyo Pop release and I'm not quite sure how VIZ has lost a sale...

Anyways I'm very excited for the Battle Royal release regardless if it is the full series or a side story.

Time Killers looks very good but I'm think the character design looks very similar to Blue Exorcist as I thought it was Yukio (I realise it is the same mangaka). This will be a pick up.

Also I'm interested to pick up Terra Formers.

Yay, several new series for me to look forward to! And Viz is expanding its reach to Akita Shoten's Princess titles!! That's happy news :D

Can you explain a bit about why it "works better in Japan"? I'm definitely eager to check the series out, as a fan of both Kawahara-sensei and Aruko-sensei. I also have to admire a shoujo manga with such a physically unattractive (especially by shoujo manga standards) protagonist :) I'm sure it'll be a totally charming story!

lys: You think a bulky dude who dresses like a salaryman-not to mention an 80s throwback-would appeal to American fangirls?

I've read angels border and it was filler telling you a tiny bit more about a few of the light house girl team characters with new art and that's it. Why even license that, if they aren't going to release the entire series that it's a small part of.

It's like licensing a OVA episode of a show that takes place so far into a series that you don't really know what you are watching if the full series from which the source material needs to be read to understand any of it.

And if you've read Tokyo Pop's version of Battle Royale they re-wrote the manga to make it like a reality game show, so many parts were not translated but re-written to make it more appealing to the US market. Lines like Rat-tat-tat Mother-Fer yeah I'm sure that's what they said in the Japanese version. I was shocked when I started importing the Japanese releases when I couldn't wait for the next Tokyo Pop volume, and reading the Japanese script and it wasn't a train wreck. The lines were normal and didn't sound corny or over the top. It really made the series more enjoyable.

So I was hoping that someone would re-release the series with a proper translation. But no VIZ has to let us down once again.

I'm sorry I hardly buy any of their stuff and it looks likes it's going to stay that way for awhile longer.

Haha, well, I don't see him as having an obvious appeal to Japanese fangirls any more than Americans, but I figured that was the point. I'm already convinced he's awesome, though, and I am both American and a fangirl :D So I'm sure he'll win over some fans here as he has apparently done in Japan!

I expect this will be the biggest s*** storm to hit manga publishing since Seven Seas tried to release Kodomo no Jikan.

I mean, here's a series about killer mutant cockroaches who look exactly like the pictures of African "savages" in 1930s pulp magazines -- what the hell is Viz thinking?

Their re-release of BR in hardcover omnibuses was also really disappointing. The ink quality is terrible and looks fuzzy on the thin paper they used...though I guess it doesn't matter much now since both versions are hard to find anymore. I didn't care for the series that much but I agree it'd be a good one to be redone.

I'm pretty stoked about Terraformars, it's a fun series. There don't seem to be many space manga around and it has some really neat characters. spoiler[Even though most of them die within two chapters of their introduction]. I'm sure many people will be offended by the series but it's a work of fiction and a pretty over the top one at that. It shouldn't be taken that seriously when read.

Yeah, but Japanese girls see dudes like that all the time on their way on to work and school. So for them, they'd actually consider that an intriguing match-up. American girls-OTOH-only care about the likes of Justin Beaver. For them, it'd be like Robert DeNiro going out with Dakota Fanning, and it'd just gross them out.

As for the Battle Royale manga, I'm told it's as terrible in Japanese as it is with it's Giffen script, so I'll believe it.
