Ok, recently at my school's "anime club", I realized that all the people in my club have no interest in anime whatsoever. They attend the club to "watch" anime, but in reality they just come to play D&D and TCG games that the club sponser brings. People in my club tend to act immature when watching series such as Escaflowne, and Evangelion and they only pay attention when there's a fight scene and they shout out stupid comments such as "what is that thing?" when seeing giant mechas and they start screaming "What the hell does **** mean?" if they hear something they've never heard before and they begin to act immature about it. They only seem to shut up if they're watching some pointless shonen action series. But anyway I was just wondering if this is how all(or most) anime clubs function? Also, does anyone know how I can improve my anime club after all of this?

That's how my club functioned, which was one of the reasons I left. How old are the members? |

Around my age, 15-17. They're a bunch of nerdy losers who only care for the World of Warcraft card game. The club can't even function without me, If I left, there would be no anime for them to "watch" |

My club actually shows anime, 1 episode of a series per week, 4 episodes per series before they switch to another series. The problem is that there's such strict rules for can be shown and what can't that we're really limited in what we can watch. PG equivalent content barely slides by and PG-13 is out of the question. Last time I went there they showed Muteki Kanban Musume (aka Noodle Fighter Miki), and I just walked right out.

Yeah, that sounds about what my high school's anime club is like. I nearly quit the club back in November once I realized that I was never going to do anything other than watch fat Narutard kids hog the TV and play Naruto videogames all day in there. I can't even remember the last time we actually sat down and watched a DVD; it's basically just a videogame club under the guise of being anime club. I'm only sticking with it because we're fundraising to fly out of state to AX next year, which will totally make up for every recess I wasted watching a bunch of rabid fanboys fart around with their Nayrewtoe fighting games on their modded Playstation2. |

Yeah my "anime" club's like that. In reality, it's not even an anime club, it's some shotty game club full of retarded nerds who thinks they're so cool just because they play D&D. I tried playing once and got bored after 2 seconds. now they're calling me a loser for not playing their stupid games. [OT] Your avatar is hilarious. |

Haha, what lowlifes; another reason why I don't associate myself with humans when watching anime. I also hear anime conventions is as good as it gets, considering you have something to look forward to and benefit from, rather than mindless gossip and old school slang. |

Nerv1, you are describing almost the exact same experience I had with my first (and last) anime club. In my second semester of college I saw an announcement that an older female student was going to start an anime club, and that she was asking for volunteers to help her. Since I still didn't know anyone, much less a single other anime fan in the entire world other than myself, I thought it would be a great idea to approach her. I sometimes wish I hadn't. Things started out okay. I did most of the work and thought it was fun, but I soon realized that very few people who were coming to our anime showings were really anime fans at all - not even the president herself! Much like you said, they just figured it would be cool to hang out and watch "cartoons." Most of them said that their only experience with anime was watching Cartoon Network, and even then usually only one or two series. Most of them would make fun of anything we watched, but that wasn't half as annoying as their rampant refusal to watch anything in Japanese! (Which meant that fansubs were right out.) For the most part the guys just wanted to see anything with big boobs and explosions, and the girls just wanted to see anything containing bishounen guys. They were mostly rude and obnoxious. I would have given up on them if not for my obvious responsibility as the only person at the school who actually owned any anime to bring. Luckily there were two or three people there who shared my ideals and so I stuck close to them. The best advice I can offer you is to seek out those people!

My high school anime club was pretty immature. We didn't meet very often because the teacher who ran the club coached EVERY SINGLE SPORT and apparenty 17 year olds can't hold a meeting themselves
 When we did manage to meet, it was chaotic. No one wanted to actually watch anime or discuss it. Go to a con? Do something productive? Out of the question. Everyone just did their own thing while DBZ played in the background. My current college's anime club is a lot better. We vote on what to watch and then once a week we get together and just watch anime. It's pretty fun.
I suggest just telling the club members how you feel. And if that doesn't work, talk to your club's president/leader and let them know you'd like to actually do something productive. And if there still aren't changes and you're unhappy with it, just leave. Start your own club or something. |

Yeah same for the people at my club. The only remotely good anime series they saw was FMA and NGE. When I brought in the FMA movie, they starting fighting over who Al really was and they're all like "Al's not a human, he's some robot brother that Ed created. Why isn't Al in his tin can?" When I brought vol.1 of NGE, one person(who I really hate) said "Go to the episode where Asuka goes 'don't rape my mind' ". Recently, I brought in Escaflowne and everyone started acting stupid when I said spoiler[Dilandau is actually Alan's sister. ] Everyone started acting even stupid afterwards and the club president kind of crushed my Escaflowne box  . *Brings out a loaded shotgun*It's hunting time...

Or you could do what I'm doing and feign interest in the club so I'll get to be on staff next year and personally get rid of as much concentrated retarded suckyness as possible. |

Our club isn't actually that bad and the officers actually kinda know what they're doing, but our school is just stupid and apparently thinks we'll have a heart attack if we see blood or something. You kinda have a problem when that happens.
General scenario is that these kind of people will laugh at you, for suggesting that in an anime club you should...watch anime. In this kind of situation I would just leave; it's not worth dealing with these types of people. btw @ your avatar: I am the pulp of my orange Orange peels are my body, and orange juice is my blood. I have squeezed over 9000 oranges. Unknown to plot devices. Nor known to plot holes. ... So as I pray, UNLIMITED ORANGE WORKS. It's just too good. xD |

I've never been in an anime club before but it looks like I might know what to look out for if I ever decide to join one. I also wouldn't hang out with any of the nerdy people that are in that one particular club outside of club meetings. My rep would probably be damaged beyond repair among the crowd I do hang out with.

I guess my generic advice really isn't very helpful, is it? But I do agree, leaving is always a good option. No one is forcing you into an anime club (...or are they?). If you don't like it, leave.

I've already left club since after the last meeting. I can't stand staying in a room with immature HS students.
