Great interview with Shin! Thank you for having him on the show. This was a very informative listen for me.

I can't even begin to imagine what it would have been like for him being suddenly transplanted into a new country with limited knowledge of the language and culture, let alone not having any friends there waiting for him at his age. I'm glad to hear despite some bullying, he was able to make a few lifelong friends. Shin has certainly made the best of his situation and enjoyed many years of success.

It was really interesting to hear about all of the stuff from the "good" old days when the North American anime industry was still in its infancy and the internet was just emerging as well. We really do take technology for granted these days considering how intensive tasks used to be just a couple decades ago.

The story about the Sony intern having to basically write a phone book worth of detailed flaws for the master tape was very disheartening. I too hope they payed that poor soul well enough for that daunting task. It's also sad to hear about animators being underpaid for their efforts, and I do also hope something changes to help reward them better for all of the hard work those people put forth to bring us the media we all love.

If possible, please try to book more guests like Shin for the show in the future. I particularly enjoy hearing from different industry insiders from various backgrounds, and this episode certainly expanded my knowledge a great deal.

Dunno where that 300+ episode count for Legend of the Galactic Heroes is coming from, the main series, the analog one that would require cleaning, is only 110. That's shorter than Galaxy Express 999 or Yu Yu Hakusho. If you add in the Gaiden series, that's another 52 episodes, but those are all digital to begin with. Shame that a true remaster never happened for those BDs to be 1080p transfers from the original sources, and I don't care much for the out of place retouches the DVD version brought. The movies came out pretty fine though, but I wish they hadn't cropped the first one.

I especially loved all the anime talk about current and older series, in this episode. It's great to listen to opinions on different shows on this podcast.

I remember hearing at a con at an Animeigo panel that Robert Woodhead had a falling out with the other Wizardry creators and that the OAV of Wizardry was actually created under the condition that it can't be licensed to him.

Just finally checked this out today, and I have to say it was a very fun and entertaining listen! A lot of the stuff they were talking about was really before my time as an anime fan, but it was still fascinating to hear. Kind of sad that there wasn't a bit more time.
