So I finally got my copy of Battle Club Vol 3 and was quite happy. Lots of naked goodness (minus the litle fish girl anyway) and a nice ending to the first little arc. My question is, in several scenes, there is a mosaic coving up the naughtier bits of some of the characters. Was this in the original? Or did Toykopop do this to tone it down a bit? I mean it is rated 18+ anyway, but it irked me a little to even remotely think that they covered up what would have been acceptable anyway in an 18+ manga! But maybe I'm thinking too much about this. I probably am. haha

If its genitals that were covered up (which I'm sure it was, I believe they did in volume 1), then it was in the original as Japan has laws against showing genitalia, even in porn. It *HAS* to be censored in some way or form. You can thank the American occupation after WWII for that goofiness.

Certain volumes of hardcore hentai actually have no censorship in them. Either these are printed underground or somehow the publishers have just been able to bypass the laws.

I believe some of the US publishers (Eros Comix in particular) actually employed artists whose job was to actually redraw what was missing from the original Japanese censorship. I wonder how you'd mention that job on a resume.

Where did you get this idea? Maybe published by certian companies or in major magazines but there are plenty of uncensored ero-manga out there (plenty available through scanslation as well). I don't know the specifics but it seems those laws only apply to certain types of manga; perhaps ones that are sold at newstands.

No. I really mean that certain Japanese hentai titles printed in Japan have NO censorship over genitalia. I know because I have read and own a few of these types myself.
