I'm kinda sorry for the studio, since anime with design like this don't sell today, sadly.

Well, I do agree to some extent with you. But if it gets a good boost for it's manga sales that would sort of make up for poor anime sales. Look at Chihayafuru.

Remember the studio just gets paid to make the anime unless they are also part of the production committee. So it doesn't really matter how much it sells for them. The production committee is likely more interested in manga and magazine sales as mentionied above in which case the anime is really just an ad for the print sales and doesn't need to make its own money. They animated Problem Children which has poor disc sales but good novel sales so Kadokawa is pleased.
But you are right, out of the gate I'm not expecting a lot of sales here.
It runs in Ultrajump which I've bought monthly for other series so I have been able to check out the manga. Not bad, not the best I've read.
