I got this topic idea from a conversation I was in about oldskool Capcom Disney adaptations and Gummi Bears.

Can you think of any games, manga or light novels that seemed to scream "make an anime of me!" but it just didn't happen and enough time has passed that it never will?

I was fairly surprised Stray Little Devil and Milk Closet never got one. Both seemed like a shoe-in for the 4-ep OVA format and both creators had other stuff made. Hoshi no Samidare (aka Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) is another thing I was expecting would get an adaptation without fail. I was going to add My Balls too but I think it would've been too risque back when it had a chance and now it's just too late.

From the games side of things it'd be Phantasy Star and Castlevania. I always figured both of them would get at least an OVA of some sort.

Princess Waltz. It's an eroge, but it's primarily plot driven and there are several battle scenes that would looks fantastic if they were animated.

On top of a good soundtrack:)

From an H-game standpoint I'm surprised they never made a Shoujo Senki Blood Sucker to finish off their trilogy. They instead made a 2nd Brain Jacker. I get that she's the popular one of the 3 but I suspect they just didn't want to get into the yandere loli stuff that would make up that chapter. But I always thought it odd that they did the trilogy with 2 part 2's instead of a 1, 2 and 3.

Maybe Phoenix Wright. I mean, we have seen Danganronpa, Layton has had a movie, Capcom allowed Megaman to have an anime. I know there was a live action movie, but I just thought that the craziness of the games would be better placed in anime.

I'm still surprised that we haven't seen more adaptations for Yuu Watase's shojo manga, given that I think the two titles that were adapted did quite well (certainly, Fushigi Yuugi was a big deal when it came out). And most of her more recent projects have been smaller and would have made very nice 13-episode series.

At least we did finally get Arata. And I would be fairly surprised if Genbu Kaiden isn't adapted in the near future, now that it's finally finished.

First thing to come to mind is Pluto. It's great sci-fi and thought provoking. Plus it's only 8 volumes so there wouldn't be any chance of the often crappy ending that anime adaptions of still running manga usually get.

Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o. On OVA already does exist. However, I always figured that the series as a whole was suitably romantic and sweet enough to warrant further adaptations, possibly in vanilla form, a la most of Key's works.

Banana Fish was popular enough in Japan during its run to defeat often wins Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack in a popularity contest, yet it never got an anime. I think it'd actually be cool to see it as an HBO show at this point (they might need to age the characters up a year or two to avoid underage rape though, but the fact that he's under 18 is a plot point at some point)

I'm also amazed that neither Please Save My Earth or Basara have gotten full adaptations. Now that fantasy series seem to be making a come back, that shocks me even more that Basara remains incomplete as it's the fantasy epic so many people want.

The VN 999 of course. VN adaptations are pretty popular these days, this one seemed to be quite popular (at least in America, I heard it was less popular in Japan, but it was clearly popular enough to get a sequel on Vita and 3DS). It would do the multiple end thing, and there's 9 rooms to explore, lots of characters to talk to, it could be done in a Higurashi style with several "bad endings" before going to the true ending (game wise, one specific bad ending is required before getting the real ending anyway). I'm sure they could find a way to skip over repeat rooms to make sure they're all visited. They'd definitely need to do all the rooms because it establishes there are indeed 9 rooms (and a prologue room) and missing out on one would be drive the audience nuts. Though the final puzzle being spoiler[a sudoku] isn't exactly riveting... maybe they could come up with something more visually interesting.

On the topic of 999 I'm more surprised Ever17 didn't get an anime. It was really popular in Japan and the story would've fit great. They also wouldn't have needed to fret much over how to do the ending.

Eh from the top of my head...

Dengeki Daisy, The Breaker, Cage of Eden, Denpa Kyoushi, and Yamada and the 7-witches. The latter two had aired ADs which I assume might get an anime sometimes in the future. As for The Breaker, I doubt it will ever be likely....

i recently finished Otaku no Musume and thought it would make a excellent adaptation to anime as a slice of life genre piece with lots of otaku comedy. im sure it would sell pretty well to boot seeing as it caters to obsessive fans and the pride they take in their hobby's.

Maybe because it's technically not finished, and maybe because Squeenix wants people to buy the games, but Kingdom Hearts? It'd be a shoo-in for US licensing and simulcast. Or maybe because the FF anime have been polarizing on if they're liked or not?

As much as I desire an Ever17 aadption, I feel that it would be a difficult task to adapt it into anime form. To capture the, err..., "presence" of the game is what I find to be the difficulty -- especially because spoiler[the VN is played through different perspectives of several characters and to incorporate Vin Dinkel's (?) presence is another problem I forsee.]

I had several titles in my head but I've recently found out that a couple are being adapted this year. There's one particular manga, Cage of Eden, that I'd like to be adapted in anime form; the fanservice and animation of the series would be fantastic in my mind.

I can second Cage of Eden and Psyren as shoe-ins that I'm surprised haven't happened already. As much as I hated CoE I admit it's got everything an anime needs to at least have decent BD sales.

I'm also amazed a Kantai Collection anime hasn't been announced yet, considering it's ultimate otaku bait status and destroyer-class fan devotion. Especially since it's the soup du jour right now. Perhaps it's just to early for it to be in this topic though.

EmbraceMe, your avatar brings in a good mention. While we did eventually get a MuvLuv anime of sorts I'm absolutely dumbfounded that it took as long as it did.
