I'm currently in a high school enviroment that has a surprising number of anime fans in the school's anime club. I believe last year for membership we had.....something close to 164 members. That makes it easy to raise money for events and such things. Art classes here have more than half the class in the manga and anime clubs, so you can imagine what they are drawing for their art pieces, think of our gallery night as artists alley at a convention. I've been lucky enough to experience first hand the older fans, passing down the interests to their students, our art teacher is an avid anime fan, and he talks about in class alot, such as "who saw a certain episode" of an anime the night before.I don't think anime has an age limit, i think its a lifetime interest unless something changes for you, and you lose whatever it was that drew you to it.

It's part of the art department i believe, and they work with many things, but he tries to make anime the focus. To answer your question, yes thats what they do, watch anime and study it, think of it as your literary analysis from the books you read in high school english, rolled into an art class.

Wow I'm really amazed, here in NYC HSchools we don't have any anime clubs at all[atleast mines don't. I mean I barely know anyone in my school who's actually in to anime [sadly]. It's things like these that makes me wish I was in a different HS.[Don't get me wrong,i love my HS though, eventhough there's no anime club ]

Cosign.
I sure see myself as a geriatric otaku in my later years.

My reasoning for why anime is higher in awareness here in California, is because we are rather close to Japan, heck, nearly 33% of UCD is asian.

Yeah it's true, you guys are closer to Japan, and I think that more people are interested and are exposed to anime, compared to people here in NYC. Almost most of Anime Licensing companies are located there in Califonia.[ I think Adv is there, and tokyopop(manga) as well.]

Glorious? Have you ever been down here? Bleh!
(ADV is in Houston, for those who don't know)
As for California, now that's a cool state. I keep hoping the housing market will burst completely so I can afford a house there. I like almost everything about California except the pollution.

i figure that fan density can be compared to the story of evolution with the chimps divided by a river. The same chimps, divided by a river, are different, but they share some similar tools and methods, because they are near, then theres the chimps from the jungle, who never learned the awesome things the river-buddy chimps learned from each other.

Now I'm totally confused. Where are you from and where you now? If you're in Cali then get ready to make room; I was born in Cali and I intend to return to my roots. So there!
"river-buddy chimps"? Eh? Never heard that term before.

Basically Houston is in Texas*, so asking whether some place is in Houston or Texas is an invalid comparison.
People don't get my humor sometimes. I don't get my humor sometimes.
*Fixed from "Houston and Texas is the same thing." Guess I'm tired too.
