If I had the money, time, and experience, I'd do it. Ha, looks like I'm out. ^^

Dang, if only I had connections to the bizz, and most of the major Consoles, or if my Reviews on other boards I do as staff had finally reached 2 Years(Does so this September of 07). Ahwell, no point in applying, shame to.

Keep in mind that two years of experience is one of the ideal qualifications. While it is definitely a plus, it doesn't say that it's absolutely required in order to get hired.
I read the article and automatically thought of my flatmate, but I doubt he'd go for it, and I'm not a huge fan of some of the new major consoles (the older ones, however...). Oh well.

You probably should have at least some experience though, I'm guessing. I mean, I may have a good knowledge of RPGs and the like, and I may have a large number of systems, but with the only writing experience I have being one article published in a magazine when I was 10, and a few fiction contest awards, I'd doubt they'd even bother to look at my application.

A couple of questions about the samples.
Do these samples have to be similar to the requirements of the articles, i.e. appeal to anime/manga community and word count?
Do these samples have to exist in some form of print beforehand?

If only I had connections... Ah, well. I used to write a lot earlier in the decade, but I haven't written anything in a long while. Plus, I always thought my writing was pretty awful, and I doubt I could write a "serious" article without it turning into a triade about something completely unrelated to games, anime, or anything at all.
That out of the way, reading reviews for anime/manga-related gaming stuffs would be nice, especially if it isn't GameFAQs "quality" reviewing. I may be a terrible writer, but at least I took English. Reviews for Nippon Ichi Software games would be exceptionally awesome to read.

puh...piece of cake, I own almost 150 imported games and Im always looking for more.
Im gonna submit my review for Garouden: Breakblow and hokuto no ken pachinslot hishouhou.
the point of this game reviewer is to open the eyes of the fans for what imports are worthy or not, there are tons of worthy rpg games out there but if you don't speak japanese that's the end of it, but Japan has a healthy dose of good action games that are not required to understand the language to enjoy them.
well, I have two years experience writing in my fan page and I did a couple of faqs but the thing thats gonna push you ahead of the rest is the access of imported games so that is what they are looking for.
Good luck guys

The above post brings up another interesting point. Will access to imported games be seen as a plus or will the articles require most reviews to focus on games that are released where a majority of ANN readers will be able to easily acquire them (US/Canada)?

Stop making me try to be funny when I'm trying to set a reputation for being a serious video game reviewer.

To be honest, I wouldn't be interested in any reviews for games that I can't run over to Walmart and buy. I'm sure others feel the same way and will pass over reviews that will likely never see domestic release like Garouden Breakblow and Jissen Pachislot Hisshouhou! Hokuto no Ken. Just like how all of the anime and manga reviews are primarily oriented towards what's available domestically I'm guessing the same will be true for game reviews.

You might want to give your shift key a tune-up before typing up those reviews. Yikes!

I would apply, but I lack the contacts, and I lack the amount of real experience necessary (I've written for my college's newspaper since September, and have produced a podcast since 2005), Maybe next time around.
