So far in the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series, for the character Alex Louis Armstrong, knowing that he is a very strong fighter and alchemist, there are times he would think that his muscular strength is so amusing. Most of the other characters would consider him annoying when he does that. Just what is Major Armstrong trying to get through his strength admiration? I just don't quite understand what is admirable about it.

He is a sterotyped character. Funny at that too.

it is pretty much comic relief , but he is proud and arrogant, IMO, about his and his family's strength. this was shown in the movie when (spoiler just in case) spoiler[he fixes the cafe thing the ed and al visit in the first episode, and it has a huge statue of him on top]

I think you're just reading too much in to it, as suna said it's primarily just comic relief and doesn't really play much of a factor otherwise, if any.

Right. Just 'cause everything ELSE in FMA seems to be symbolic for something....

Anyway, Armstrong is just the guy that everyone either loves to giggle at or loves to run away screaming from, and a very very few actually aspire to cosplay. -eyetwitch-

Ed getting offended by being called short, Winry's shopping spree's, and so on. There's actually quite a few comedic aspects, more notably in the first half, that don't lend themselves to much of anything aside from comedy value in the series. The main dramatic points are symbolic and meaningful, but certainly not everything.

I was being thoroughly sarcastic Razz I've just heard a few too many fans waxing poetic about how everything is a symbol for something or is saying something about the human psyche, social systems, etc. (right down to Mustang's miniskirt obsession). Honestly, how can people put so much interpretation on something and still enjoy it? Yeesh.

if we try to interperet the series by ourselves, we could be right or we could be wrong. the only people who know the real truth are the creators.

You ALWAYS need a self-loving, super-rich, ego-maniac in an anime series! And add to the package, extreme loyalty and a good, caring friend and you have Major Armstrong.

Major Armstrong is perfect (and not only in his own mind). To be honest, I wouldn't mind having some of his characteristics. Embarassed Just not the over-the-top ones!

I have an old friend who was seriously into bodybuilding, way back when, and he would flex and pose like Major Armstrong, all the time. part of it was showing off, and part of it, was looking for weaknesses that would have to be worked upon and corrected. I noticed it in myself when I was seriously lifting weights. A lot of it was is this hard work, paying off? And yeah, it gave me joy to know that what I was doing, was doing what I had hoped.

yeah but that's in real life. in an anime, there wouldn't be any flaws that need to be worked out because he is drawn, not real. that may have sounded rude, but it's true. armstrong is just plain arrogant about his body and his family to the point that it is narrcissitic(sp). but i still love armstrong and his little purple diamonds Laughing

OKong it pleases me to state the fact that you are truly one of the most ignorant people I have ever seen on the net. You don't understand anything about human nature. I hope you are 13 and that is why you are asking these utterly moronic questions, that you have asked in your past 5-6 topics. Christ man, what the hell is wrong with you?! Are you truly as stupid as all of your questions make you look? If so I imagine your IQ is below 50.......

Armstrong is just one of these guys that are obsessed with the beauty of a top-shape physical form, and comes from a long line of people who are like that. It's supposed to be a take off on people who are just too into beefing up - but Armstrong has this other aspect of himself, where he's kindhearted and loyal. He's sort of a comical character, in a lot of ways, a "gentle giant" type, but he's also a pretty interesting protagonist and you don't really know what he's working towards until near the end.
