Hey all,
I was just curious how everyone finds about anime. Such as what's new, what's happening in Japan, different series one might start, that kind of thing.
I used to use Anime Insider, but then it kind of started to go dry with the same stuff over and over.
Anyways please share your source with everyone and tell us why you use it and if you use multiple sources, which one you prefer.

I mainly go by word of mouth. I browse forums, talk to friends, and actually ask people rather than just reading it from magazines or websites. But not to say simply seeing or reading about it won't help any. I just think interacting with other fans and sharing experiences with one another is the best way to get a more direct exposure.
Then of course there's the blind purchase. I've done that maybe, a dozen times, but it still comes down to doing a little research like reading plot summaries and browsing for user ratings (good source is the ANN Encyc. of course ).

For news-news (New liscenses or whatnot), I come here.
For new show info, I mostly use Newtype USA- specifically, the free DVD that comes in every issue. That's been quite a boon for my collection, and I still have most every DVD that's come in the magazine (save 2 from that 3-month period where the DVD was subscribers only.)
If I want specific notes on a specific title, I check here or at animejump.com for reviews(although, truthfully, I haven't been there in awhile.)
And for those rare occasions where I just wanna find something new without anything particular in mind, the 'random fun' links here are fantastic. Click, read, click, read. I've learned about shows I didn't know existed that way.

Blogs are really good places to get updated on the latest and ongoing series in Japan. A great number of blogs have their own season preview guides; most are not even near the quality of ANN's, but there are a few that are actually really good (If not for Nagi's blog I wouldn't have watched Higurashi no Naku Koro ni). And some of them cover over 20+ series, and while they don't go into too much depth about each one, there's a lot of pictures, and a feasible opinion.
And of course, there's these here forums. I wouldn't have started watching Happiness! if not for the thing in the Identifying Anime thread, and I probably wouldn't have started Asatte no Houkou without the thread made here. Part of the reason I started the Series Discussion Compilation thread was to keep track of all the great threads made here.

Same here. I'm addicted to checking this site for license news.
I also use Anime Insider for the occasional insight that's a little more English dub oriented and for their articles and comedy bits, which can really make you smile.
Occasionally, I venture out to random websites in search of anime rumors.

Me? Depends on the type of show. For new shows from Japan... I quite literally just download any torrent I see with an 'episode 1' in the title. Of course, that's why I'm trying to follow over 30 shows at the same time and feeling a bit overloaded sometimes I've watched a large large number of the shows, particularly the ones since Spring of this year.
For anything that's not still twitching it's so fresh? I pretty much go by word of mouth from people here and at another site I don't feel the need to post in. The ratings (particularly from this site) can be extremely helpful in telling whether or not, and how much, I will like a series after simply looking at the graph for a minute or two and checking a few people's detailed reviews. Whole process takes about 3 minutes and I'm rarely too far off.

I tend to go to the official company web sites. My favorite is the Gundam Perfect Web site, which has all the new listings for both the series and merchandise. The Bandai site is pretty big and has some good info on older titles. The Gonzo site is really slick and has a cool flash intro. The Gonzo MMORPG looks interesting. The Bones site is disappointing.
I really rely on these sites since none of my friends watch anime. I do tend to buy series without any information on them because of this. I don't usually read threads about a series that I have not watched on ANN.

This site primarily, followed by news & reviews on animenfo.com & animeondvd.com, recommendations from members of the various anime forums I'm a member of, & recommendations from my US girlie friend, who leeches anime I've never even heard of.
More often than not though, I buy a lot of my anime on a whim, i.e., "oh, that's pretty art work", or "that's cheap".

I usually go by way of ANN, seeing as their sources happen to be one of the most reliable that I have used. Occasionaly I may read an anime magazine, but other ways would be by the ads that come with the Japanese manga that I buy.

Same here.... ANN is my primary source of information.
Now, most of the times I have taken into consideration what other people would recommend; reading the plot summary (the stories that appeal more to me would have a good chance of being purchased) definetly helps a lot, but also my friends seem to be a good source because every once in a while they prove to be quite some intuitive persons and they share with me their discoveries, one of them being the exhilarating Kino no Tabi.
Nonetheless chance plays also a key role, because I also found some anime totally by mistake.

I know what you mean about Anime Insider: It was interesting at first but now it seems like they have become Adult Swims B*tch. Now I have finally found a place that sells Newtype around here so thats my new magazine source.
As far as what FUNimation is releasing, I got 32 comercials to watch every night during their 4 hour run on COLours TV (MAN they need to cut down on the commercials! ) I mean come one, why cant they just have one commercial per show like Adult Swim? Sure they got to promote their products but comeon people! Its usually just the same 5-6 commercials repeated the entire night! If I see one more two-minute commercial for Degrassi, Dragon Ball, or Moon Phase Im gonna scream! Ok, rant over.
Anyway, on the internet I mostly browse ANN and Amazon.com to see whats hot and then goto Wikipedia to learn some more to see if its worth buying.

This website is my main source of information. I get a lot of hints as to whether or not I should cough up my money right away for a series or if I should wait until it comes out in a box set. And, so far, they've been right on the mark.
My other source for future titles is Newtype USA, I have over 80 titles in my "want to see" list and it's mostly because of them. And hopefully, some of them will actually arrive here in the States!

I know what you mean! My WTS List grew VERY long after I picked up Newtype 2 months ago! It seems most of the anime they talk about is already on its way or going to be so I wouldnt worry about whether or not something will be released here or not. I'd worry about getting the money to buy them all!
