Okay, I was on the anime section and some guy came on and made a post and totally bashed anime watchers. I Don't recall exactly what he said but it implied we were losers and had no lives basically. I came up with an idea to minimize this...excuse my french...bullshit.
When a new user signs up on ANN I say that they should have to write...not an essay exactly...but a paragraph roughly about why they enjoy anime, some anime they have seen etc...basically a paragraph about anime. Therefore we could strictly get people who are here for anime and not people who come to knock us or people who come to spam about things. And a secondary use for this would be to test the users english. I have seen countless people respond to threads about how they have no idea what the hell the poster is talking about
Edit : Look in the anime section RIGHT NOW. that prick posted about 10 times and its all bloody spam! this supports my suggestion.

No, that probably wouldn't work very well and would be a pain for everyone involved.
But maybe something that autobans for posting more than X number of posts in X amount of time. Because this is just ridiculous.

For once, I agree. I can't stand that guy spamming up the boards with his worthless spam either. I really think he needs an IP ban because I don't really like him and he keeps making hurting our fellings and making us look stupid.
I think he should've thought of discussing anime-related issues before he signed up instead of spamming.
EDIT: Thank you for getting rid of him.

Aw dang, I would have loved to see that guy since I've been bored all day, and trolls are fun to talk to... guess I just missed him though.
Anyway, the idea wouldn't work and/or would require far too much effort to be of any use. Most people would just make up some BS reason, it wouldn't be that hard to get around.

There was nothing to talk about. He jus posted new threads over and over and over, all in all caps with titles that were either words like RAAAAAAWR or lame insults like YOUR ALL DORKS. He made a few posts in the threads of his that people responded to or in another thread, but they were nothing resembling converstation or inteligence.
This guy had over 30 threads before he got bored and moved on.

Except that according to Teh Rules #8b, you would be dealt with as a troll as well.

This guy made so many spam threads that I actually had to go all the way back to the third page to find threads with new posts...
And it was ironic how he called us stupid.

My boredom would have taken over and I wouldn't have cared. Although, in all honestly, I probably wouldn't have posted anyway...

I think it would be good if the moderators had the power to do a 12 or 24 hour ban or something similar. That way a poster such as this last one could be stopped temporarily and the admins could enforce more severe punishment later if necessary.

Temp bans slow down, not stop. It's nothing more then a flick on the wrist to a troll.
Writing a paragraph is good way to keep alot of people out, the good and bad.
IP bans is can be very bad and almost none effective. Not only you will "try" to block the bad, you'll block the good.
Since there a discount smoking topic in Talkback, I guess the confermation code isn't doing a super job. Is there a limit of tries on can make in a hour, day, what have you?

People, I think it's best not to try and make contact with the spammer, rather you should just report the posts (one I think would do just fine), contact admin, and they will take care of it. Replying to the spam only makes it worse for you and admin. With that said, I hope that this can close the thread nicely.

I don't think writing a paragraph would keep out the determined trolls. All they'd have to do is just pull something out of their butts like "I like Pokemon and Yugioh and all that other stuff on Cartoon Network" and they'd be in, regardless of whether they were lying or not.

I'm with Wolverine Princess here. While writing a paragraph as part of the sign-up process would probably deter the weaker trolls, the hardcore "I must make other people's live suck worse than my own" types would just punch out some gibberish and start annoying.
It's too bad we can't legally hack a spammer's computer and give them a virus or something. Maybe corrupt their operating system. That would make even the most vindictive troll think twice. (Would it be illegal to send pro-anime Spam-bots to a spammer? If they do it to us, let's return the favor I say.)
