Don't know if this has been publicised yet but ADV have cancelled this title. Just got an e-mail this morning telling me so from a company I had pre-ordered it from.

There was a recent thread at AoD about how the collection had been delayed from its late-November release date. Maybe they realized it wasn't a good idea to try to extract more money from the fanbase of the series, especially after releasing the supposedly "definitive, ultimate" Platinum Edition not too long ago.

Was this the box set with the jacket and all the other fandangles? Well, that sucks. I was hoping to pick this up somewhere down the line... ahhh well.
OT but Howls Moving Castle just finished up on Starz and the color of the subtitles was awful... wasn't really interested in the movie, either. |

At OniCon they said it had simply been put on hold/delayed until they could work out all of the extras they would be putting in it. So at this point, they still intend on releasing it, just not as a "10th Anniversary" boxset.

There is something wrong when you release a title 3 different times on the same format. I mean the Platinum edition were a nice little add since the picture was touch up, and the audio was finally 5.1. But this 10 Anniversary is nothing but bull crap, I mean honestly you just released the thin-pack of platinum edition last year.
Quite frankly there shouldn't be another release of Evangelion until after the new format is decide, and even then that should be less disc and more extras.....considering how much more information HD-DVD and Blue Ray can hold. Delta |

Remember the thinpack edition didn't have the extras.

Still you could buy all of the regular editions for a little bit more then get all the extras, I just fail to see why ADV felt the need to release the series a third time with little to no extras that we haven't seen. Get me commentary on every episode by Anno and then we are business.....and a NGE Jacket? That the big selling point, not for 170 dollars or however much it was going for on TRSI. Delta |

Eh, the Platinum boxes (individual volume box and complete thinpak set) look better anyway.
Perhaps a collaboration between them and Manga Ent. for an ultimate release of the series and movies in the final DVD release of Evangelion before it gets placed on Blue Ray and the likes? ... Naw, ain't happenin'...
I have no idea what extras were on the Renewal release that were *not* put on Platinum, except for the original live-action sequence that was going to be put in The End of Evangelion and didn't make it in the final cut. |

Well this was annouced in a recent issue of Anime Insider. The reason why ADV cancelled it was because they stated that the platinum edtion was the ultimate version of NGE and they didn't want to release another version of it after stating the platinum was the ultimate version. |

Yeah I got the word while surfing Rons Anime Corner Store. I preordered from Amazon 2 months ago. Would have been nice if they would have let me know it wasnt being released. Oh well. I already own the movies and the Platinum Collection. Now I'll jsut use that money to buy some other goodies. YAY!

If you just think about it for a second, doesn't that seem like a pretty weak explanation after all this time? Wouldn't it seem more likely that if this were the true reason it would have been just as true before they made the series public and started soliciting pre-orders? I mean, even though I have nothing against ADV this explanation seems rather unlikely. Perhaps the seemingly ever louder chorus of fan disapproval finally reached the ears of the number crunchers and gave them cold feet about the final outcome. Or maybe there were unexpected difficulties securing the various extras and/or making a decent projected profit off them. There are just too many other possibilities that are easier for me to accept. |

What issue is that in? I have all the issues up to last June and read them from cover to cover. I must missed it. I remember AI having an article a while back in the issue that had Naruto (August I think) on the cover stating that ADV was releasing Eva 10 on Aug 22, but I haven't seen any other news about Eva other than the current issue stating that 4 new Eva movies are coming out over the next few years. That also seems like a flimsy excuse. How could the Platinum Ed be the ultimate when it has no extras what so ever? I cant believe ADV would put something that iffy in an annoucement. Dont get me wrong, Im not accussing you of making it up or anything, it just seems strange to me. |

I thought the reason that the 10th Anniversary Edition was delayed/cancelled was due to the fact that ADV didn't have the rights to all the extras they wanted to put in the boxset. |

I could see that. They have the majority of products when it comes to EVA but they still dont have everything. Still, thats a idiot mistake to advertise a product before they have the bugs worked out for a company considered one of the best in the industry.
