I couldnt find a topic like this so.....
What anime do you people, the consumer, believe to have the most replay value, although im sounding like im talking about games.? I thought of this while watching DBZ last Friday, and though, I've seen this 800 times and although im not amazed on whats going on i just wanted to watch it, like I've done 5000 times in the past. and Sailor Moon, no matter how many times I've seen it i just LOVE it and watch it over and over again as many times as i can, and jump up and do Sailor moons hand thing every time she transforms, it just doesnt get old to me. |

For me, comedic anime have the most replay value. With shows like Azumanga Daioh and Hare+Guu, although I've watched them countless times, I can pop in any random episode and still enjoy it. I believe it's because shows like that are simple and easy to get into. While I do like anime with good and sometimes heavy/serious plots, I'm less likely to rewatch it a lot if there's too much thinking involved.

Most of the time if I'm re-watching something it'll be a well-known movie like Akira, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, or Metropolis. I recently re-watched relatively unknown Mind Game as well. Movies with strong stories and lots of attention paid to small details just make my day. Long series with lots of filler like those you described are lucky to get me through a single viewing. I guess most hentai probably has some decent replay value, but I'll save that for another thread. The only full-length series that I can remember re-watching multiple times is The Ping Pong Club. Man, that show is just so sick that you can still get a really good laugh out of it months or years later.

I agree with above. I watch the Miyazaki films over and over. For episode shows though some are:
Fruits Basket Angelic Layer Negima Of course I have a ton of ANime DVD's that while I might not watch those over and over, some of them I picked up so that when my daughter is a little older (she's a toddler) can sit and watch with me when she truly understands what is going on. She does sit and watch anime with me now but I know she only understands about 25% of what is happening. So for me some of my dvd's will be the fun of watching again with her for the first time. |

I have to go with Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz. I never get tired of watching both anime; it always sucks me in, especially the story, the gundams, and the actions.

One quick ? for you Lynx...your avatar, that's the Captain that's friends with Jinto and Lafiel in Banner of the Stars right? I agree that comedy anime generally for me has the best replay value. That and action series. You need ones though that have about 30% single episode plots though, that way you can just watch one or two at a time when you want. Comedy just works period, you always have time to laugh. |

I second that one. When I am feeling down the music cheers me up. It is a series I watch in either language and I feel happy afterward.
They are sort of like old friends or even family. I like to check in once in a while. I recently watched "Last Exile" again. I love watching those ships move and Alex not moving. I've never seen someone move around so little and still have such style. I've also watched "Haibane Renmei" four or five times since I bought it. Oddly, it seems to be something I crave around the holidays. It comes across as a hopeful series even though it has its dark moments. |

I rewatch Samurai Champloo a lot - many of its individual episodes are strong enough to be watched as one-offs so I just pop it in when I'm looking for something to kill some time. The series itself is so beautiful, and the fight scenes so well coordinated that it can become pure eye candy.
I've watched Trigun through about 5 times - I adore the pacing of the show. The way the atmosphere of the show almost completely flips around episode 14 is so delightful to watch. Wolf's Rain will always have a soft spot in my heart. My sister and I watch it through every once in a while, and the way the music pulls you through the episodes is very effective. Some of the episodes are a lot of fun to watch, others have your mouth hanging open in shock. |

Cowboy Bebop, every episode has so much more zip and zang to it each time. Not only that you get to just appreciate the music and dub track, but the reason why it's personally something to pick up at anytime is because of it's episodic struture. Hear the screams and yells of Vicious while bullets fly throught the air....to sounds of broken glass as the rain falls....
FullMetal Alchemist: Currently on my third time through it, there are always part of the series that will tug at my heart, and everytime those final credits role I am just so happy and sad at the same time. FMA does such a great job with pulling you into the world and carring (hating) for certain characters. NGE.....sort of it's ok every now and then, not something you can watch at any time, but still just rewatching the series to see a young kid grow up... I would like to say Monster but it's so dark it's really hard to watch this at anytime....Monster is more then anime, (for me at least) and when I am watching it I forget everything that going on in my life....24 minutes of sweet surrender. Gundam Wing I just think that because this is the series I first realize that was Anime it's always going to be special to me, and I think that holds true for most. I think of all the ones I may rewatch sometime soon, FLCL is high on the list, as is AIR and Cowboy Bebop.
I think I could get more out of them from rewatching. There was something glorious about Air anyways, and Cowboy Bebop - each episode is fantastic enough as a stand alone. FLCL is one that was confusing first time anyway but enough of a spectacle to just enjoy it as it is anyway... Also, I've rewatched a couple of mushishi and Haruhi recently and those stand the test of time pretty well as well. |

the anime would have to be a nice quick one, with some disjointed episodes. that way, i could just watch one episode of it and still get enjoyment out of it. either that or it needs some really memorable moments

If I like an anime enough to buy it, that means I expect to watch it several times. I always try to watch both the sub and dub of a show if I have the time, as well.
That being said...I'm the sort of person who could watch a movie or TV episode dozens of times if I liked it enough, delighting in hearing my favorite lines and looking for subtle things in the background I might have missed.

I agree with the people who are saying flcl. No matter how many times I've watched it I could still sit down and check it out one more time. Im not sure why, It could be the music, but I haven't gotten bored with it yet.

i would have to say cowboy bebop and fullmetal alchemist.Cowboy bebop because each episode is basically its own and it never gets old,and fullmetal cause everytime I watch it I realize something new about the series that I didn't notice the prior time I viewed it..infact,i believe FMA is better the 3rd or 4th time around..

Replay value eh...
Super Gals because i can put in any episode and enjoy it. It a show you can just jump into without reading or watching the 1st ep up. Any of the ghibli movies have a timeless and replayable value. But i think any series anyone considers their favorite series or movie has a personal replay value to them like with me and my Genshiken! |
