Sooo many mixed feelings! I love Anno, but Nausicaä is just the most Miyazaki thing that ever Miyazaki'd-- how could anyone else really own it like he did? I doubt this will develop into anything, but it's an interesting prospect to think about! |

Anno is one of the few directors that I would trust to do this and do it right. He showed that he could work with Miyazaki's style on the original movie, and if Miyazaki approves, you couldn't a much stronger endorsement.

If he promised to stick to the manga storyline, I'd be all for him doing it. Whatever his faults, Anno is a true artist and could pull it off.

If he can channel the same Anno that did Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, then I think it could work really well. I'm just not sure that Anno exists anymore.

So going by how frequent the new Evangelion films have been released, is it safe to assume that Nausicaa 2 will arrive in theaters sometime in 2020?

I don't know. He hasn't directed all that much since Evangelion (and it's admittedly stunningly good recreations --- (the first two, at least, I haven't seen the third one yet)) and Kare Kano. I'm not even sure Miyazaki's endorsement carries all that much weight for me anymore. My own choice for a Nausicaa sequel would be Hosoda, but I gather he left Studio Ghibli after creative differences with Miyazaki. And I'd want Hosoda to do something new --- not more of the manga, but an original story, perhaps one that takes place after the events of the manga, in the world created by Nausicaa's actions at the end of the books. I'm not really sure what part of the Nausicaa story I'd want Anno to do. Maybe Oshii could do a movie about Kurotawa as a low-level functionary in Kushana's imperial government. |

aye... my thoughts exactly. Anno is, above all, versatile = exactly what made Nausicaa (and Miyazaki at his best) a masterpiece. |

I have a feeling it went something like this:
Anno: Miyazaki-san, can I do a Nausicaa sequel? Miyazaki: Huh? (processes eventualities for a few minutes) yeah, sure, knock yourself out. Anno: WHOA! That was easy! Miyazaki: If you bomb, I'm not involved in this anyway. Anno: ...I must not run away! I MUST NOT RUN AWAY! |

If this is Anno's next project after the Rebuild films are done, then I'm all for it!
The last part of the Nausicaä manga is begging to be animated
