Alright, I recently moved to a small town, and I substitute teach every now and then at the local high school. There are alot of anime fans there, but they've never had a club or anything. I want to start one... but I'm really cheesy and can't think of a good flyer design to have the kids pass around. I know I want it in strips like 8 inches across and 2 inches wide, but as to what to put on the strips...I can't think of anything awesome. Any ideas?

Because I want to be able to pass them out discreetly. I don't think the school would let me full out advertise.

Well I would put pictures of Kenshin with his sword in hand (or not if the school dosen't allow images of weapons) and then anime running across the bottom. If you want you could try and put any samurai as a pic since they sorta sybolize anime in the most descrete way I can think of...unless you want to put a picture like my avatar on it...cat girls sybolize anime to. This is OT but what grade is your favorite? When I was in school my favorite teacher loved teaching 12th grade.

Does your school not sponsor clubs?

If the school won't let you advertise, you probably can't start a club. And you'd be in a big mess if the school found out a substitute teacher is creating a club behind their backs. Either get official permission, or give up the idea would be my recommendation.

Well...from the sound of it they would let Minai advertise just not full out like taping flyers around the school (they wouldn't let us even pass out flyers everything had to be done through speeches to each class).

If you school won't let you advertise, they either have some serious issues or don't allow clubs. My advice - ask the principal or someone if it's okay to even start a club. If someone walks into a classroom full of students watching Cowboy Bebop and the meeting isn't authorized, there's gonna be trouble.

Well, it isn't going to be a school sponsored club. The meetings will be at my house. The school doesn't have anything against clubs, but I live in a pretty narrowminded area. I don't really want to be restrained by "schoolness." It is just a local club. I'm going to give the flyers to one kid, and let him be responsible for it. There's no way I would get in trouble. I'm not worried about that, I just can't come up with a cool looking design.
BTW, my favorite subject to teach is Sophomore English, but I always like senior students the best.

In this day and age, highschool students meeting at a teachers house for activities is asking for trouble.

And in what way is that? That is so...err..gah. That irritates me. You have a valid point, and I'm not irritated at you, but the idea itself strikes a very raw nerve with me. You're telling me that it is gotten to the point where it is fishy simply having people that are 18 and under at my house? What about the kid I have mow my lawn? Is that somehow suspect too? I'm not a teacher. I just sub there every now and then, and I would gladly relinquish that if it were required. But even if it were, what is so wrong with that? I despise the rotten notions people have in their heads about teachers and students today. I know this really off-topic of what I asked about, but honestly. If this is the world I have to live in, I'm better off never leaving my house.

Good luck with the anime club then.

How about using a photoshopped picture of Haruhi doing her trademark finger pointing? You could make her wear a red-white-and-blue hat and a long white beard, and have bold red-white-and-blue text underneath that says, "We want YOU to join (insert club name here)!" That would be cute.
