That's it. I'm sick of it.

Anyone who brings up the art in the game as distasteful is pathetic.

You can't form a single thought in your own head without jumping on the bandwagon.

Ban me Zac. I'm done.

I think we all knew it was coming from Todd so I'm not surprised.

Regarding the actual game, I never could get into Muramasa or Odin Sphere, two other Vanillaware games, so I'll probably pass on this one. The art, while I won't go as far as to say its distasteful, is a negative to me as well though. I don't like those Amazon or Sorceress designs at all.

This whole art this is annoying me pretty good. So many reviews are complaining about it and there is no reason for it. Yes the women are hyper sexualized but so are the men. The women have big breasts and the men all have insanely over the top amounts of muscles.

It annoys me that people think the art in the game is distasteful. Why did no one complain in the past Vanillaware games? Odin Sphere had several female characters with over the top bust sizes but no one complained then. Why is this suddenly a issue now?

Probably several factors. Like the "distasteful" art is given to the playable characters instead of just letting it be for NPCs or the monsters. DC has it be for all. Next, the game is having a lot more attention than usual, so you'll have many people's first Vanillware game be this game and not knowing the artists earlier works. Then its possible that people were interested in the game, but saw the art and pass on it. Its usually those who don't really have an interest in the anime look, but like the gameplay. So if the art looked more like Western art or more down to earth, you would grab those players. All the times I hear of people that would like to play Etrian Odyssey games, but the moment they see the art of the characters, they show disinterest.

Huh...damn...I actually won the bet. Cool

I had a bet with a friend that I could find atleast 5 reviews for this game that will be preoccupied with the Kotaku's little fire storm.

Hoping the game becomes more successful to encourage more games like these. Brawlers is a dying genre, and let's also hope that the overblown controversy Kotaku cooked up doesn't scare Vanillaware from expressing itself artistically in future games.

For the last time, Kotku did not do anything. One snaky comment did not stir up what people have said since this game was revealed.

There is nothing "snaky" about calling the president and artist a 14-year-old teenager. That's basically a far from subtle attempt to provoke the artist into responding. And once the artist shows him art that didn't feature attractive women, Kotaku immediately spun the picture of men as a "gay joke" aimed at them to further fan the flame they started.

This isn't the first time Kotaku attempted at click-baiting. Remember their attempts at getting a reaction out of Kamiya?

It's almost as if people have their opinions about this regardless of what Kotaku thinks. But no, that would be silly, clearly people only care about this because Kotaku wrote about it and had a little spat.

Kotaku hated so much. THey forgot about overly-sexualized character designs So they gave it very positive review. http://kotaku.com/dragons-crown-the-kotaku-review-977366436

Oh god not this shit again.

The male characters in this game are puerile male power fantasies. They are not sexualised in the slightest. They're self-inserts for the male players of the game.

This "But the men are sexualized too!" "argument" is so trite it's ridiculous. Using it clearly shows you have no clue what you are even talking about.

If someone makes something that looks like a 14-year-old's masturbation fantasies, then...yeah, they gonna get called a 14-year-old.

What does art, graphics or visuals have to do with the controls or level design? Seriously. Super Mario Bros had pretty lame graphics, visuals and art, but was still an amazing game. Why are "gamers" of today so shallow? Art has nothing to do with a game's worth. Yeah, art matters in animation, but not in games. Do you consider Deadly Towers to be a superior game to Legend of Zelda? Because if the worth of a game is ranked by unimportant aesthetics, that would mean Deadly Towers is superior to LOZ in every way, by your "logic." Do you expect all games to have Beauty and the Beast level art/visuals? Seriously. Think about it.

looks like a fun game with really decent hand drawn sprites, fun game-play and just a great throw back to old brawlers like golden axe or streets of rage. I really do wish that I could afford a copy but alas that's another issue all together so I'll just have to stick with what I've got.

On the kotaku comment people just DROP IT ALREADY PLEASE! It's a persons opinion. No matter if you agree or disagree with said opinion by bringing up it over and over again, only leads to posters to flame and derail what is suppose to thoughts on a persons review.

That's a really....generalized statement. I think it would be more appropriate to say that they are stereotypical male power fantasies and not actual ones.
I don't want to look a thing like that so I can't really call it a self insert nor does it play on any type of power fantasy I may have.
I'd rather have...you know...power(s) as my 'strength power fantasy'. Head of a corporation or a king or zap people with lightning or burn them with fire or something. Not look I live, breath, and eat steroids and I know a lot of males who feel the same way.
