Okay, today at school I was looking at my friend's cds only to find out that she had gotten both Wolf's Rain soundtracks. Unless I am mistaken, OST2 is not out in America, correct? I have both soundtracks, I got the first one with the box set and the second one I imported.
Here's the fishy part. When I asked where she got them, she said that she purchased them from Amazon for 22 (for both). I have done research (this site, RightStuf, Amazon itself) and have been unable to find a domestic version of the second soundtrack. What makes me almost certain that these are not the real deal is the disc itself. The original first disc is gray, and the second is light blue. Hers have the characters on the disc. They're completely different, and I'm really skeptical. I haven't heard the quality, nor seen the jewel cases. What do you guys think? Fakes? |

Look for the distributor label, "Victor Entertainment" (or Bandai). If you don't see that, then they're bootlegs.
The problem with jewel cases and sound quality is that they're very easy to duplicate. But slapping on the label of the actual company is always avoided because of the potential legal issues. Also refer to this page for further assitance. |

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out. But do you know, by chance, if an official Wolf's Rain CD was ever made with pictures of the characters printed directly on the CD? I've never heard of this, and was what clued me in in the first place.

Both soundtracks have a simple design of a white wolf on the front, that's all. $22 for both CDs is definitlely suspicious. Aside from clearance sales with proof of a distributor label from the website, I've never seen an import CD sell for under $20 a piece.

Yeah, it is suspicious. But what I meant by characters on the cd is that images of the characters are printed directly on to the cd (not just the case). This is what made me skeptical at first, as the real cds are a solid color; gray (or blue) and aside from the cd title and other info have nothing printed on them.

sorry but i don't know if ost2 is already out in the us or not as i don't live there but are the ones you have:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0009U7GPS/ref=sr_11_1/250-5639929-5805868?ie=UTF8 http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00013YSZY/sr=1-2/qid=1156305617/ref=sr_1_2/250-5639929-5805868?ie=UTF8&s=music those 2?? Besides that, i don't really know how much CD's cost there but you saying that your friend bought it for US$22, so that's about ¥2560-ish, i find that rather an impossible price expecially for an import. Hope this helps clear some things up... Also, i've never seen or heard anything about a Wolf's Rain CD with pictures of the characters printed directly onto the CD but unless if it's distributed in the US, do they normally make some changes to the cover art or something like that? |

No, they don't usually change things. At least, I don't think so. I have a domestic version of the first cd and it does not have the characters on it. It is, what I assume to be, the same as the Japanese version. |

I can't seem to find the 2nd OST in American stores. Do you know a good place to look?

It's not an unreasonable price. I have seen many import CDs under $20. Mostly they are around $15, but I have seen some as low as $6. Prices don't have to make sense, it all relies on the supply and demand for that moment. ![]() From the description I can not tell if that CD is an import or a bootleg. If it was off Amazon.com, your friend should check the ratings of the seller, maybe even e-mail the seller to ask (subtly). However, I implore everyone, please do not assume things are bootlegs easily. It is an insult to the seller of the item. I know, having personal experience on Amazon. It really, really hurt to have people accuse me of fraud, most of the time because they were uninformed, and didn't realize how damaging that kind of accusation is ![]() At any rate, I really enjoyed the Wolf Rain OSTracks. They made me like the anime a little better ![]() |

I've seen those as well, and they were all bootlegs. In fact, there's an anime store about 20 minutes away from here that I used to frequent until I found out all of their CDs and almost half of their anime and live action asian movies were bootlegs. They sell the legit copies for outrageous prices (even used ones were around retail), but I'll admit they have a neat looking rental system that's all R1. Show me a link or picture of these cheap import CDs, and I'll believe you. Because more often than not, the only case I've seen of extremely low priced imports were from fans who were very desperate for the money (hint: one of the editors of ANN). |

They don't make major changes as far as I've ever seen. Imports are pretty much always exactly the same as the japanese version, mainly because of course it's imported from there and not produced here. Domestic versions have translated liner notes in most cases and translated song lists but all the ones I own are identical or nearly identical to the original in every other way. |

Amazon.com has it labeled as [IMPORT], priced at $45. Amazon Marketplace is flooded with bootleg copies. |

Thanks for all of your input, it was very helpful. Yes, they turned out to be bootlegs, as I suspected. Also, Bruce Lee, I don't mean to shoot you down, but it has not been released in the States yet. It is only available as an import. So, omnistry, you can stop looking. I got mine from the Anime Nation site for about $32, so try there.
And to Tony K., I do not have any links nor pictures. But the cds are quite obviously fake. There is no logo of any kind of the cd, nor do the cds even look like the originals. (As I mentioned, they have pictures of the characters on them.) As a last remark, anybody looking for a domestic copy of Wolf's Rain O.S.T.2 can just stop looking now, because it does not exist. Once again, thanks to everyone for their help. It's unfortunate that some people sell bootlegs to unsuspecting customers. ![]() |
