I noticed that WTK posted a thread on Fandom Post about a new Anime distributor, and yet it is apparently run by a guy named Corey Maddox who tried to scam people back in 2010. He wrote a responce on FP to those who brought up his name:
I am rather skeptical about all this and since ANN hasn't mentioned that a new company was in town it looks even more sketchy. Does anyone remember that scandal? Thoughts on this? |

I'd like to know more background on what this Corey Maddox guy is actually accused of. Without more information, I certainly can't have anything useful to say about this.

Click on the twitter post and then read the BakaBT forums post. I didn't directly link it because it is associated with a torrenting site.
There is also this post from Voice Acting Alliance. |

Yeah, none of those sources provide much detail. There's mention of Corey's criminal past: what was he convicted of? Apparently, he set up some fund for people to donate to for the purpose of licensing something, he's accused of fraud and he refunds all the money. It all seems very hazy to me.

He was convicted of possessing child pornography and is registered as a sex offender.

I'm willing to hear him out, at least through Saturday night when he announces the license. I'm approaching this cautiously, of course, but there is always a possibility that he might very well be genuine.
I'm gonna keep an eye on this closely until further news comes out. |

Seems like they're first title is hinting to be Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, something I've never heard of. Well, best of luck I suppose, but with a sketchy past, who knows where this will go

He's getting Hantsuki? Oh wow, that's something that I really want to buy too. I'll be paying attention to how things go and wait it out, but for once I hope this accused scammer can deliver.

Curious. With the initial case, I was never clear why people thought it was a scam necessarily. Seems more like just some half baked plan that's just not remotely realistic. He's obviously a massive scumbag and creep. But his criminal past doesn't really translate to fraud (although obviously people aren't gonna want to support him because of it). This new development is even more interesting though. I'd write it off as just another half baked attempt to start an anime company with no hope of actual success. I mean, it's easy for anyone to say "We're gonna start an anime company" while not yet actually having any of the capitol or contacts to do so. But they actually claim to have licensed their first title and have a panel at a con where they'll announce it. Of course, that all could be flagrant lies. And if so, maybe that means this is a scam and not just wishful thinking.

I can assure you we will be at Seishun-Con tomorrow and Dragon*Con in August. We will announce the title tomorrow night. I have sent the press release as well as the Japanese licensors contact information for confirmation. It is honestly up to the staff of Anime News Network to contact them and check it out and post it if they get that said confirmation. I hope they will do so even with my past horrible attempt aside.

csmediausa - I noticed you deleted a bunch of people's comments on your Facebook page when that twitter post was brought up. I also heard you blocked those same people. Not very professional of you to ignore people's concerns and to try to sweep it under the rug.

Hmm, If this guy is a sex offender... Is it even legal for him to go to an Anime Convention?
There are A LOT of Minors there. |

I am not sweeping it under the rug. The way i feel is if you want to ask me directly about anything the contact form in our website will get your message about anything and everything to me and i am more than willing to answer any questions about the matters you have brought up. I am not going to hide or lie to avoid the voice acting alliance members anymore... you see how well that worked last time. I am also not going to shy away from answering questions about the past all i ask is you have the decency to ask me directly instead of posting stuff publicly especially when one matter is very personal and has nothing to do with crimson star media as a company but me personally and the other matter is a flat out accusation and technically is slanderous to my business.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, Corey, but I do understand how some people might be hesitant to do so. I do appreciate that you're willing to come here to the forums and settle the matter yourself, and I also appreciate the fact that you're quick to respond to any questions you're asked both here and on your Twitter account.
I look forward to your panel. If you can, do you think you could get someone to videorecord it and upload it to YouTube? I'm not able to make it to Georgia myself, unfortunately. Also, my suggestion is to try to get set up to sell your products on RightStuf and RACS as soon as you can. It will help clear up a lot of the stickier matters if people can see you working through well-known retailers such as them. Oh, and RESCUE MASTER KEATON. |
