Ever since I have seen and played all of the .hack video game and anime series, this is always common that I tend to see at times when the player who is in the game and for any reason, they should die in The World, that player falls into an unawakening coma. What could be that cause of all this?

Well lets break this down a bit SIGNspoiler[The case in SIGN is over Tsukasa who awakes in the game and is unable to log out, from that it's discovered that he is a she in real life and that she in an unawakable coma, part of her condition was tie down into morganna but I am bit fuzzy on that.] Now the games spoiler[Dieing in the game doesn't necessarily mean that you fall into a coma, rather being data drained (DD) leads to a comatose status in real life. More information on those fall into this coma is being presented in the books another birth. Kite notes that being killed by a data bug could also lead to a coma for yourself in real life. ] the newest anime Root.spoiler[ Root also keeps that notion that DD can lead to being in a medical coma, as Shino is DD by Tri-edge and this causes her character to be broken apart in the game. Ovan seems to have some ability to stop DD, but how is still uncertain. ] I think that part of the central themes of the anime/game/manga/novels is that line. The line that a game becomes more then a game and becomes a living breathing being, capable of indepedent thought, and being able to move out of the games rules. And so part of being a part of the game would make things more real, making the danger real. If you only have the "world" then it can literally can become your world, your real world. As shown in SIGN, what happens when a character must live in a world that isn't really there. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

Just to add a little to this part... spoiler[Morganna was keeping Tsukasa in the World, from what I understood, because the real person behind Tsukasa had an awful life and was very discontent. These emotions made Tsukasa ideal for preventing the birth of Aura which would then lead to Morganna no longer needing to exist. How she did it is a little unclear, but then again, so is how data drains could lead to comas, etc. She found what she wanted--a dark soul to learn from so as to prevent the birth of Aura--and figured out a way to keep it from escaping.] Oh how I loved SIGN and the games. ![]() |

Just thought I might expand on how I think it happens, Data drain is the ability to take a character or monster and break it down to it base level. spoiler[ Such as a Monster that has the infections and has exceeded it's standard when data drain would revert to level 1. I believe there is a lot more happening when you connect to the "world". I believe that you literally put yourself in the game in a spiritual way, meaning that part of you leave the real world, when you enter the game (aka "the world") such data drain power multiplies on humans. Your not just draining that character in the game your literally prying away (what I guess you call) the soul. Such your soul is needed to make the body whole, and would explain the strange comatose. I'm hoping that from the novels Another birth we'll be able to find out more about how this occurs. Since I am fairly certain once Akira brother awakes we might get more information. ] Damn that was a could a write, I don't know if anyone feel like this but after I finish writing something like this it's makes me feel better to get it on the page. Regardless if digital paper, it still feels soothing (That word i think) to the mind.
Don't we all? Actually it's seems like SIGN gets a lot of unfavorable reviews, I think it's because people wanted a show that was action action action (Like how a game would be) but instead we needed up with this slow moving very deep anime. But the games I thought that they were alright, I enjoyed the story that was central theme of the game. But I didn't really like the game play all that much, nor did I like the fact that often times I would be ready to go into an area (After a great cutscene that has me all pump up to go) and then end up looking for virus core for an hour or so..... meh, I watched hack.sign (give or take a few episode, which may be why I don't get it), never played the games, and didn't really enjoy the anime. Not everything I watch is non-stop action, but by the same token I think this show takes deep and theoretical to levels which make it dull. The visuals and style in which the world and characters were drawn was my personal favorite part.
What I never understood is spoiler[what was going on the entire time with the ball-thing that was uber powerful and no-one could defeat? What was the deal with the garbage/temp data world they entered towards the end? The girl in a coma WAS the main character? Then who was the cat? So confusing.] |

Just from reading your question in the spoiler it appears to me that you may want to rewatch the show in order. You seem confused by certain things that are pretty well explained. It's probably because you missed certain key episodes, I sugguest that you pick up the anime legend version of this series. It's also at a steal for your wallet it's only 37 dollars at rightstuf and once there a sale you can get this thing for damn near nothing. Makes me mad when I spent so much money on it.....but it's worth it.
spoiler[Ok the golden ball thing that was really strong it was Tsukasa guardian. Morganna gave it to her (yes her) so that she would be protected and that she would stay in the game, therefore Aura would never be born into the world. Yes Tsukasa was a girl that last scene where Subaru was in the wheelchair that was her meeting Tsukasa. That part of why Subaru loved the game so much, because she didn't have the same handicapped as she did in her real world. The Cat is part of the random AI made by Morganna (I think) it's end up being able to make it's own decision and go against it's creator in the end. ] I think I am going to rewatch this series again, there so many things I forgot about.....plus it will help me with my Root connections as well Till next time, Delta Kiral |

Game spoiler: spoiler[Macha is actually one of the "phases" that has been corrupted by Morganna. The purposes of the phases was to gather data on different aspects of humanity from the players of the world as part of Aura's development.] |

Yes, spoiler[Skeith, the Terror of Death, gathers data on human reactions to death. Innis, the Mirage of Deceit, gathers data on human reactions to deception. Magus, the Propagation, gathers data on the need to produce offspring. Fidchell, the Prophet, gathers data on human reactions to an unavoidable fate. Gorre, the Machinator, gathers data on human reactions to cruelty. Macha, the Temptress, gathers data on love. Tarvos, the Avenger, gathers data on betrayal and revenge. Corbenik, the Rebirth, gathers data on many things, mainly human reactions in general, such as wanting to live or die.] For those who have played the games, these guys are most annoying. |

Annoying doesn't begin to describe these guys.....there worse then annoying there just a waste of time......the battles I mean, the actual story elements are quite nice. Hopefully the new .Hack/GU games the battle won't feel extremely boring and also I hope that the combat lives up the expectations of everyone.... Till next time, Delta Kiral |

I guess that mean you imported the game and can read japanese fairly well or you have just read some walkthru. If it's the former let me ask you this.....how the gameplay? Am I looking at the menu fighting from the first (four) games or perhaps something different. Please no spoiler concerning the game if possible.....I don't want to ruin it......thank you. Delta P.S. I love your username....... |

Neither. I have no clue about anything concerning the new game except a few story and character details, which I've found throughout random fansites, discussions, descriptions and such. This username is way old. ![]() |
