Or it's something FUNimation kinda wanted and IG tossed it in with a higher profile title. In any case I just don't see FUNimation picking this up by its lonesome.

Will definitely pick this up. I still own ADV's release of the TV show (which was my first non-Sailor Moon related anime purchase!), and am excited to own the film. Curiously, I've never seen it, but hope it transfers well to Blu. Hopefully Funimation can pick up some more titles (where's our Cowboy Bebop announcement???)!

Too bad the Sakura Wars franchise isn't as it used to be anymore.

I just watched the TV show and the movie a week ago. Very surprising news, but I think the movie should look good on Blu-ray, especially the beautiful opening song performance.

It's relatively rare for me to be this unexcited about a Funi license.

This title doesn't really interest me. What does interest me is that this is a Kadokawa title. It may just be speculation but I'm wondering "what titles did Funimation want to license to pick this up as part of the deal?"
...
Maybe it's a title they already announced. Wolf Children? Or maybe it's one they haven't announced yet...COME ON, STEINS;GATE MOVIE!

Totally. The franchise (anime only; I haven't played the games) takes such an interesting setting an churns out such a bland and dull product.

I have always passed on the Sakura Wars, so I have never seen it other than the trailers.
So how is the movie, plot and animation wise?

The animation is okay, albeit with some dated cgi. The plot, though, is generic and filled with illogical character actions.

The movie does suck, but it is freaking gorgeous. It will look really nice on Blu-ray.

Sakura Wars is kind of lame. Still this is better then the usual Funi crap and the movie does look really good.
Ratchet Altair is kind of cool in V, so I mean the movie is kind of ok because of her. Not really though.

Wow, despite how loved Sakura Wars is over there, I was expecting a little more enthusiasm from viewers here. Is it really that dull and bland? I often heard a lot of good things about it over the years. Was it because of So Long, My Love's reception?
Thanks to Project X Zone, I want to dive a bit more into the whole Sakura Wars universe. I only own one VHS of the series in my entire library. I was hoping to expand on it.

The games are very good. The original version of 1 and 2 are a bit dated compared to 3-5 and the PS2 remake of 1. The OVAs for the first two games (one's a prequel/interquel to ST1, one's a sequel to ST2) are also very good. The rest of the OVAs are rather bland, and the anime adaptation of the first game's story is pretty horrible. Actually it turned me off from the franchise for over 10 years.

Too bad they won't fix that awful dub moment that completely failed to work around the "English" bit
