Speaking of, Nagisa looks the most interesting to me followed by Mikoto. I can guarantee you I'll hate Rin. |
Rin used to be their friend too right, I wonder what changed.
Also if they are team, Rin has to have his own team I assume?

It amuses me more than it probably should that these guys have the same names as three Sailor Senshi and two Precure.

Well Vylash, they haven't been drawing in the big bucks like they used to. But they're not exactly living in poverty either and continue to have a rabid fanbase, so I also think it is unfair to call them shells of their former selves.

If this is actually a solid anime about male friendship that takes it's subject matter seriously then I'm all for it. They can have all the male fanservice they want, not like I'm going to notice.
I mean that's kind of what I wanted Kids on The Slope to be about. I mean the scenes that were supposed to inspire the Yaoi porn or whatever were obvious, but the show at first presented some decent stuff about male comradery before losing it and diving into too much romance melodrama that I couldn't stand.
I have some doubts, but sports stories are usually pretty much the place where you get this type of story so I hope it's actually good and just doesn't rely on "here's attractive dudes".
But either way. Damn the stupid uproar about this show. Hell, I'm interested because this doesn't have the usual cute girl crap. Maybe next time they can be even more bold and make something away from the school setting. Here's to hoping.

His jacket and uniform is different so I guess he goes to a rival school? Or maybe he'll transfer back in?

I have to agree with almost everything you said.
Also... KyoAni makes ANIME. That's it. I watch their stuff because they make things interesting, and their animation's just superb. Sure some of their titles lately don't live up to the older ones, but I think they're trying out new things just like how I see they're trying out with this one too. There's no harm in trying, after all.

What if it were a stealth gay romance like No.6 was? Before it even airs you seem to be mentally locking it into a heteronormative ideal. Doesn't Japan already have enough heteronormativity?

Yeah I was under the impression that Rin goes to another school.
I think Haruka, Makoto, Rin, & Hazuki all went to the same middle school. In fact I wonder if the first CM we saw was them in middle school?
Now Rin is in a different high school and Rei took his place on the team.
But if this is team competitive swimming, Rin should technically have his own team as well. Will there be more characters?
edit: Oh never mind it says they were teammates in elementary school. I think saying that CM was from elementary school is too farfetched even for anime. lol

KyoAni's actually the top financier for the production committees of Chuunibyou, Tamako Market, Kyoukai no Kanata and Free!, so the amount of money that goes back to the studio is far more substantial than it has ever been.
Keep in mind too that Chuunibyou has been published by KyoAni as well, so the anime bringing attention to the light novels was highly successful for them.

KyoAni is just a shell of what they were in the past, anyway. The only show since the golden era of Haruhi/K-On/Key that I really enjoyed was Chuunibyou. The rest are pretty meh. |
You not liking their current shows doesn't = them being a shell of their former selves |
While you are right that my own personal opinion doesn't mean that its a fact, one thing thats indisputable is that they aren't the mega studio they once were. Pre Nichijou, in the industry they were viewed as the studio who could turn anything they touched to gold, but since then they've struggled to do significant sales for anything other than Chuunibyou. Nichijou and Tamako were significant flops and Hyouka sold pretty well, but not to their normal standards. They aren't really putting out the stuff that makes people want to go out and support it like crazy anymore. Which honestly is probably the reason they're attempting to make something for a new demographic to see if it goes any better.

No, the one thing thats indisputable here is that you have literally no idea what you are talking about.

Ok, but Nichijou was an amazing technical accomplishment, and its lack of success is unrelated to KyoAni at all.

Hyouka did not sell badly by any rational interpretation of the term.

Its almost as if you define "success" solely by disc sales.

Yes, I can. You're trying to suggest that Hyouka was a failure even though by the standards we use it isn't.
You also seem to completely not understand why KyoAni is doing things the way they are now.
