I'm surprised Kansai Imouto Nyaruko sold that much, for being a cheap flash short. I enjoyed it, but shorts typically don't even do that well, it sold an entire Fractale!

I wonder if 3,000 units is profitable for KyoAni's budget, Tamako Market is no Kill Me Baby.

As far as we understand what's profitable for normally animated shows, as in no high budget OVA/films, or zero budget shorts, 2,300 isn't too terribly good. We could be entirely wrong, but evidence is seen in what gets sequels.

I'm fairly sure you need to move at least 5000 units a volume to qualify as "doing well", barring special circumstances.

Both Maoyu and Tamako Market are likely in the red. Maoyu was originally projected as a 5-6k seller early on, but after about 3-4 episodes people in Japan started to lose interest in it and its sales fell off a cliff. For Tamako Market, that damn bird and the lack of any kind of cohesive story (just throwing a bunch of things together and not really resolving anything) killed that one.

Or perhaps it was the marketing strategy of of "Hey, people will be watching Chuunibyou, let's announce it during episode 9 to air 6 weeks later! That surely can't fail!" Not to mention it's airing between two strong seasons (Fall 12 and Spring 13) where people are likely saving money for "better" shows.

the only reason I think chuunibyo sells is because of the extra short episodes.

tamako market really has nothing going for it to purchase.
I like the bird, without him, this is a very generic show.

this is my opinion, all the nyaruko shorts and ONA series are far better than that mess from JCstaff.

the TV series is not bad but it is severely flawed with all the intentional annoying bits added in.
