Before I jump to my discussion topic, let me explain my situation. I have a good bit of anime on my computer (mostly fansubs). I watch these, much like people in Japan watch them on TV, and if I enjoy the series, I buy the DVDs. I buy the DVDs sometimes for the extra features or increased quality, but mostly to support the anime and its' creators and just to have it to collect. Now, before I get assaulted for bringing this over-discussed topic up, keep in mind that's just the background, so please try and contain your response to the topic of my question:

Putting all legal issues aside, which medium do you prefer to watch your anime on?

I prefer watching the files on my computer, even though I have the same anime on DVD. The main reason being that it is so easily accessible. Some people consider it to be lazy (not going to argue >.>), but you can't deny the convenience of reading a post referencing episode x, scene <blah>, and within 30 seconds or less being able to have it up and playing instead of digging out the right DVD, turning on TV and DVD player, and navigating through the menus. I love the instant skipping to any part of the episode, instead of fast-foward (even at 534x or whatever DVD players do now). I also notice that I go back and just browse and "wander" through my collection on my computer often since it is so easy to do. Anyways, tell me what you think. Most people think I'm crazy, so I figured this is a good way to find out. Very Happy

Well, personally, I like the dvds on a nice big tv the best. It gets me into a movie-watching mode. Get my bag of skittles, a mountain dew, and sink into a comfy couch for hours of entertainment. lol. But I'm just as lazy. When a dvd ends and it's time for the next one, I throw skittles at the little sister until she moves. Normally it ends up with us staring at each other, both wrapped in blankets, and the dog eating all the skittles from the floor...

maybe I should consider the computer-way though. Just to save my skittle stash.

A worthy cause if there ever was one.

Although I do watch fansubs of non US licensed anime on my computer, I prefer watching dubbed DVDs on my big sceens. I'd rather not read my anime if I don't have to!

Besides, my computer is limited in space and oftimes hangs the video (.mkv files are the worst) so it's not that instantaneous for me to rewatch something I find a discussion on.

Another medium to consider is TV/cable. This covers both syndication (CN & AS) and Video on Demand such as free Anime Network, AS and Select on Demand VoD programming. Even though some of these are edited they are still preferable to fansubs (especially since I avoid fansubs that are licensed in the US)

I much prefer watching them on TV, especially since my computer is nearby and I'm often using it to some degree while watching. My sound system for my home theater is far better, the screen much bigger and the quality of DVD's much better, not to mention audio choices and the other bonus' that go in to DVD's.

My conditions of consumption of daily anime would consist of a TV and DVDs. I do watch anime on the internet sorry to say. However the anime I do watch on the internet is anime that had pretty average ratings and looks alrightish. Anime I think I will prefer and like more than others I actually get off my arse and go buy it. I have a pretty big collection of DVDs a third of which is anime. So I don’t like fansubs but some times they help when you’re unsure about a particular anime.

Ok for my actual consumption I watch normally half a series in a night (regarding 26 episode series'). I spent a shit load of cash on a big arse TV and by Christ I’m gonna use it. This may seem pretty sad but for the past 3 year I have watched a film almost every night. I found that now I can’t even sleep if I don’t watch a film before hand. Anime plays a huge part in my life and sleeping programme Confused . But yea my consumption would consist of watching DVDs in my room before I go to sleep on my whooopping great big TV Anime hyper . Anyway that’s bout it.

watch what's good on t.v., Eureka 7, Bobo, Naruto, etc., and watch way more on my computer.

If I had to pick I'd take fansubs, only because of many cultural references and little things that anime dvds SHOULD have on them but rarely do.

I do support the "if you try then buy (if it's good)" rule tho.

DVD on TV for many reasons. Save space on my computer; being able to sit on a couch rather than my computer chair; and my TV screen is bigger than my computer screen.

I used to think the same; then I got a recliner instead of a computer chair and a 20 inch screen. Anime smile

Well I use a nice comfy recliner as a computer chair, due to how much time I am here for personal use/school/work, so it's very comfy. Very Happy Although I think my couch may feel neglected sometimes. =(

I prefer DVDs, since the footage is almost always better, plus because I don't like to clutter up my computer with too much stuff, I always burn fansubs that I want to keep to a disc and get them off my computer, which means that watching them is just as much of a hassle, if not more, than getting a DVD out would be.

Man, how many times have I seen one like this. I watch all of my anime on DVD, whether it be the PC player, my portable DVD player or the family player. My portable can also watch R2 DVD's.
