Sion isn't an amnesiac, if anything she remembers the past too well.

But it says in the video that she has "kioku soushitsu", memory loss!

Perhaps the video game significantly diverges from the novels then.

The game footage in the promo itself has her name romanized "Shinon".

It's romanized as Shinon, but it doesn't actually mean it's the official name itself. Her real name is Shino but her IGN in Gun Gale is Sinon. Romanizing it is pretty much translating it as to how it is pronounced. It's like how they changed Lyfa to Leafa.

Where is she romanized "Lyfa"? I've only ever seen it "Leafa" in official sources.

Could have swore I heard that this game's story is an original one penned by Kawahara. That would explain a lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if Shino's backstory eventually came up in the game.

Heh, a MMORPG show that's not a MMORPG. Maybe she has selective memory loss like Jodi Arias. Laughing

Well it's not like there's an official translation of Japanese to English for some words. In the case of Lyfa to Leafa, a lot of light novel readers who read English translations of SAO before the anime was released were outraged saying that Leafa was supposed to be spelled Lyfa. As I said, in this case it would be the same as well, it's all a matter of preference.

Makes me think of the Horo/Holo thing with Spice and Wolf. Probably never intended to be her official name, and it was just spread by unofficial sources who made a guess at her spelling. Regardless of that, I think I like "Leafa" better anyway as it makes the pronunciation of her name obvious, while "Lyfa" potentially invites mispronunciations.
